Hi guys,

Did a bloody stupid thing at 11pm last night. 2 modified VL turbos pulled up next to me at the lights and indicated that they wanted a drag. Stupidly I did, and I got caught. The thing is, we didn't go past 90 in the 70 for 99% of the time, (which is still way over), but at one stage I was looking at the other car and not at my speedo. When I looked down, I was going 120 and slowed down back to 70 again. Surprise, Surprise, this was when the cop got me, when I was going 120 for like 3 seconds. $440 and 12 months. THis is only the second time, I have ever had a drag since I got my licence 3 years ago, and I normally drive the car at the speed limit and in a civil manner.

I am not trying to make excuses for speeding, and I am prepared to pay the fine and I think it was a dumb thing to do and all that, but I was wondering if there is any way to appeal the severity of the suspension?

I am 21, have had the car for 12 months, it is unmodified, have never ever got a fine or had an accident at all until now.

I know you can take it to court, but I don't want to say that I wasn't speeding or dispute the facts. The fact is, that I have to pay the consequences for my actions.

So I was wondering if anyone can help with any suggestions?

Thanks, and learn from my mistake

There is not much you can do mate. I was caught doing 100+ in a 60 zone about 3 or more years ago. I lost mine for 6 months and there was nothing I could do, if you do the crime you have to do the time. It's the only way you learn and trust me you DO learn. Sorry to hear about it but let this be a lesson to others. Just imagine all the spots a cop could be sitting next time you put the foot down.

well you could get a lawyer and take it to court. i wouldnt be game to explain what the hell you were doing in front a judge. but you could repent and get some character witnesses or somit.

See if you can find an excuse for needing a car, eg, work etc. you might as well investigate what you can do, community work etc. i dont know anything to be honest, your just going to have to cop it sweet.

i know people who have had their license suspended for doing stupid shit (Speeding & DUI on P's) and he was a mechanic. Think how hard that would have been for him.

ditto Adam...

my brother lost his licence on monday night (or early tuesday morning! 2.15am) clocked at 104km/h in a 60 zone... loss of licence for 6 months, 6 demerit points and like $396 fine. i told friends and people i worked with (law firm) and my friend used to work at Legal Aid and mentioned you can defer your loss of licence and keep it like on a probationary thing and if you get pulled over for anything in the probationary time... you screwed and your suspension is doubled... im not sure however if this is the case for speeding as thats not what she had that knowledge from, she said your best be is to go to your local cop station and ask if you have options.

but in the long run, you broke the law, you suffer the consequences and count your lucky stars that there was no one else involved, no accidents and no injuries...

ouch. that hurts mate ;)

my mate lost his license for doing 140 ina 60 zone. big fine aswell. now when he gets it back in 4 months he can only have 1 passenger in his car for another year.

beleive me he learnt his lesson. everytime i see him he tells me how hard it is not having his license.

thats a real shame u got caught mate. see my friend did speeding all the time. he had his license for 5 months b4 they got him. It seems you are ussually a pretty tamed, sensible driver. its a shame it happend to you.

Thats what I am so annoyed about. I am usually a sensible driver, and it was only for a couple of seconds that I was so far over the limit. Plus, it was 11 o'clock at night, and the road is 3 lanes wide in each direction, with no traffic.

The worst thing is that the commodores didn't even get pulled over.

Damn that sucks hard, i feel for you bad. I've lost my licence for 6 months before and it really takes away your freedom. Dont make the mistake that I did - driving around your skyline on no licence. If you need to still drive stick to any non sus cars ( stock VR commo etc, magna) and drive 5 under the limit and u should be ok.

and my friend used to work at Legal Aid and mentioned you can defer your loss of licence and keep it like on a probationary thing and if you get pulled over for anything in the probationary time... you screwed and your suspension is doubled... i

that law option no-longer exists in Vic, you jsut get raped now.

No Options letter or anything.

Welcome to bracks' "safer victoria"

Just on the speeding, how did the cop get you? Was it via Radar?

If not, and they were "following you" (as they did with me) you can go to court and say that its not possible for them to know your exact speed and get the speedo wound back a little bit.

Mine was 12 months, but i had it lowered to 6 months by this means as there is no chance that in a 300m stretch of road i sped on the cops sat behind me long enough to get an accurate account of my speed, it would only have been an estimate and the court noted that

Yeah, it was by radar. I don't know much about how the radar works, how does he prove it was me and not the commodore next to me that he got the fix on?

Is there any chance that a judge would take my previous driving record into consideration and reduce the suspension?

Radar? Your farked then.

They didnt look at my past record, probably better they didnt anyhow ;)

they could have got the VL next to ya, but meh, thats something you'll never be able to argue against in court. Cops word against yours and they wont beleive you.

Trust me, it aint a case of Innocent until proven guilty, its more like,

Guilty with no chance of being innocent

Radar you're laughing not ****ed!  If you were side by side with two other cars and they used radar they have absolutely no way of proving it was you and not them the radar picked up. Get yourself a lawyer mate.

Do they have a photo or something of my car with the speed on it? Or is it just the speed that is recorded on it? If there is no photo, I might have a chance???

Sorry to hear about what happened Nick, tough break..

I'm waiting for a court summons to come in the mail for my "street racing" episode a couple of months ago - no radar, just their speedo. So i'm going to fight it in court. See how i go!

Good luck whatever way u go! But i think you're in tight spot if they got you on radar, can't really fight it and if u take it to court, just costs you money... and time...

Bad luck mate not much you can do

i asusme they pulled you up because you were loosing? or the easeist to get

Actually, I was winning, and when they pulled me up, I was just cruising on the speed limit a few kays up the road. I have no idea where the commodores actually went, they must of seen the cop and taken a side street. I am coming to the realisation that there is not much I can do about it I think.

Unfortunately, I might have to sell the line, cause there is not much point in having it sit out the front of the house for a year. Anyone want it!!

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
