AFM = IMPORTANT/PERFORMANCE.....safe to clean myself mister?

Recommended Posts

Hey Skliner's,

Is there any reason(s) you know of why I couldn't clean my AFM myself.

I know this.....

They are delicate,

They are expensive

They can make the difference b/w a good line and a bad line!!

That I'm relatively confident with my car's mechs/electronics and basic function (so far anyways!!)

I get charged $20.00 specifically ontop of my service bills to have it cleaned by my mechanic (last time I went)

I have.... my phillips head, and a can of C.O. Cleaner running through a "limiter" to reduce the aerosol's output.

I found some dirt/dust on the wrong side of my pod filter, and I'm concerned it may have hit/contacted my AFM sensor(?). I will also be re-cleaning my pod filter media tonite.

So....is this something a common Skliner can do?

Thanx.

wat about curciut board cleaner?

yes, no residue is the idea.

The C.O.Cleaner (circuit cleaner) is the stuff I've been using for many years on VCR heads to restore video clarity, without harsh rubbing.....infact, you're soaking in it!!!

I figure that it should be good enough on the Skline's AFM(?)

ahhhhh....too late, I fooked it!! I un-did the top 4 phillips head screws (where the 3 pin plug goes in)and bang...............broke the f'in SOLDER JOINTS.!!!!

Didnt realise you had to take out the entir assembly!!! DAMN DAMN DAMN.

Going to have to take it all out tmrw and 're-solder' the 3 pins back onto afm circuit.(did I say re-solder...I'll have to use 3 pieces of thin bloody wire!!)

This could be an expensomax lesson!!

huh?

wtf are you doing?

you don't need to take anything apart, just pull the afm off the car and spray through the mesh and onto the wire that hangs into the pipe.

Waz.

Ta Waz,

sort of wish I knew this prior. (all my fault...all my experience!!)

Anyways, pulled the pipe out, like I should've in the first place,

put it on my work bench, and re-soldered the connector (not the loom) with thin wire back onto the AFM. Now, at least, it's serviceable without having to pull out the pipe work. Just undo the 4 phillips screws, and spray in C.O cleaner, from now on..

You should have seen the shit that came out of the AFM pipe.

It works fine now..........................

Man.........., 1st gear red-lines in next to no time now!! (you can feel it immediatly!!)

That's it!!.....I'm getting a new foamy for my POD!!

All's well that ends well. (and I thought I was smart saving $20.00)

Mark
