After 3 engine failures I am finally back on the street with a Skyline - at last.

The R33 GTR is going again, with it's 3rd (& hopefully final engine build)

After the last fiasco just before the last 4,6&rotor nats in Feb (when we made 480rwkw then cracked the block on the friday before the meeting) the street GTR is up & running again.

This time the R33 has a brand new N1 block, new aries forged pistions, smaller 272 HKS cams (the 288 step pro cams from the race GTR are going into a 3 litre that Mark from Rhemac Motors is building for his GTR) & a conservative run in tune

at 1 bar. Tim has tuned the motec at Tilbrooks (who did an excellent job of getting the car ready) & the GTR currently has 375 rwkw (500hp).

The only other change is the gearbox, which is now an OS Giken Sequential 6 speed. This box has bigger dogs then the Holinger & should take the pounding of street use better than the finely tuned Holinger box(which is staying in the race GTR)

I have only started running in the GTR over the last week & hopefully will have it sorted ready for the skyline cruise later this month.

The OS engine is still in the race GTR (which will hopefully be ready before the 4,6&rotor Nats/ & Drag Combat). Yes I did try a PPG box for a little while.

I am testing out the OS 6 speed because I like the sequential changes (& the extra gear)

It sometimes does'nt grab the next gear if not shifted firmly enough - will have to keep practicing.

The power curve is OK for now - is still pretty conservative(I want to get some use out of this engine - not blow it sky high like the previous setup.)

I thought I'd seen the beast tucked away at work a few times lately John. It inspired me to bring mine out for the daily commute a bit more mate! Congrats on being back on the road. Feels good doesn't it?

Tim is a damn fine tuner and I have no doubt that this motor will hold together over the long term. A little less power is much better than another failure! And more money/time.

I'm toying with the idea of going for a bigger turbo on my thing... not sure exactly what yet but 'nicely' into the 300+rwkw region would be the aim. See what happens I guess.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
