I have read the ammendment to the Road Traffic act, and no-where does it say that bonnet surfing is covered under the anti-hooning legislation. The cops are simply using it's existence to confiscate vehicles whenever they feel like it.

While I agree that the people involved should be punished for there stupidity, I see no reason why it would fall under the anti-hooning rule. Someone is going to have to fight this in court, and show the police that there enforcing the act improperly:rant:

some1 i went to school with died a few yrs back from car surfing, pretty stupid thing to do.

hey all this about stupid laws by politicians who have no clue about the real world reminds me of that law that anyone standing in a group of 3 or more people can be arrested because they may be plotting against the government!

is that law still in and just not practised or did they realise many years later how dumb they are and removed it?

I think it was called illegal gathering. You needed a permit otherwise you could be charged. I think it was basically a fallout from the hippy days when those the sphincter of the universes would break everyones balls by protesting about anything and everything. Then the the sphincter of the universe politicians came up with that law. Don't think they thought that one thru' too well. It's probably still in the law books but I think it would be too embarrasing to try to use it.
