that the R34 GTR is seen as the worst GTR by Japanese enthusiasts

Firstly I know we both already question his opinion having spent $50K+ on a Supra :D hehe

dude but I think this is still relative to the fact its a GTR. And this is the first time I've ever heard of this. Worst by who's opinion? and worst judged on what? if you know what I mean....

BOXSTER????? Why buy half a Porsche?

I know you said you'd buy the GTR but just the word Boxter makes me angry. There is nothing I hate more than the Porsche Boxster. "The claytons Porsche"

Gee, I've got some great videos here you guys would absolutely love!

They are from the Japanese Best Motoring series, and there is one which pits both Jap cars and Euros against each other for 6 hot laps around the Tsukuba race track japan.

Line up includes Ferrari F355, Porsche 911 Turbo, Nissan GTR, Honda NSX Type R, RX7, Supra can't remember the others. GTO I think. Great to see the cars driven flat out side by side.

Results: F355 by a nose, GTR, Porsche Turbo few car lengths behind, then a long gap to the rest of the Japanese cars. Great to see the Sky up there with some of the best in the world.

Take a bow.

i'd be thinking long and hard about the new Z4, supposedly a Boxster beater, awesome looking car too. For indicators, they use the BMW symbol, slightly raised above the side panel surface, and it's ringed by the orange indicator, how cool is that!!!!

but yeah, if they are going for 90K, be hard not to put in 10 more for a R34 GTR.....

as for preferences of different GTR models..um....i'm still deciding whether i like the R33 shape more thant he R34 (only discovered there was actually an R34 about 4 - 5months ago....i know...NEWBIE! :D)

yeah, still haven't made my mind up on which one i like better....

The Z4 is a very sexy car & i would take one over a crappy boxster anyday.......

I think the 3.0L will give gts-t's a run for their money.......Then they'll bring out an 'M' model.

yeah, offered in 2.5 and 3.0 engines.....straight sixes of course :D :D :D . we got a 530i '00, and that thing really goes, but it's like 1650kg kerb weight, throw that 170kw engine into a little Z4......:drooling: :jump:

supposedly 0 - 100km under 6, like 5.8secs....oh yeah....bring on the MZ4? M4? M Roadster again?? I think would more than give the gts-t's a run for their money.

I don't really like the Z4 much at all :D

And I hear they will cost close to $100K as well. Don't be fooled by the figures .... my friend has a Z3 3ltr and its pretty damn slow despite the power figures...

M engines are a totally different story. I have driven an E36 M3 and they're pretty damn quick and responsive... totally different to the Z3 3.0 engine. I've sat in an E46 while it was flying and that thing goes....

did they put the 170kw, 3 litres in the old Z3? mmm...didn't know that...suprised that it's slow, cos the 5 series with that engine is quick, i'd imagine that that Z3 would be really quick with it.....maybe it's a different engine and the 170kw doesn't fit in the Z3..

well i was reading the Drive part of the Age on sat, and it said that the Z4 will be driven and reviewed on Thursdays Drive, so we'll see then how everything turns out...

is the GTR (which this whole thread is about...sort of :D) had a respray, or is that the factory R34 GTR blue??? cos i'm looking at getting a blue GT-T, just wondering if it would look like that in that lighting.....

No thats a standard colour but you can only get it for GTR's not GT-T :P

  • 2 weeks later...

i was looking thru the upcoming auctions at J-Spec and i've seen a few GT-T's which were blue...and at www.gtrcentral.com (canman's site from SDU) he's scanned in the pamphelts for the GT-T and in the colour bit there was a blue to choose from...

here's the pic from www.gtrcentral.com the file name is pretty much self explanitory - but isn't the GT-T also have factory yellow available?? or are these the GTR colours, and it's just been named wrong??

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drive beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
