If only things were as simple as putting on a socket

I'm still curious - if you don't need real time update, why can't you unsolder the ones from the current ecu, and solder on ssome sockets, then plug in some EEPROMS..

I'm going to hunt around for a spare box, and give it a go...

Ian, I have the grid rom board like I mentioned.

Cheers,

Ed

Sorry, I got confused with all the stuff in this post! Could you post both the link to the grid rom board, and the link to the rom data spec on the grid home page ie http://www.grid.co.jp/en/index.htm???

Ian

Ed - with the ER34 ADR file that i created, have you used that to look at the ROM image in RomEditor rather than spending $300 to buy the one from GRID?

the realtime updates need an emulator which is plugged into the Badbiki board. From what I understand the current version (multiboard) is NVRAM which can be uploaded over USB (but not realtime emulation). you can check with lucus on that....

the Grid emulator looks good but what software runs it? it would probably be raw hex editing (rather than a tuner friendly program) since its just an emulator package. if it possible to user program the thing via DLL calls to the USB interface then it would be a feasible option

Actually, I'd just prefer an open protocol, as USB isn't that hard to talk to.. But you do have a point I should have said - if the Badbiki one actually comes out at a reasonable price, with live update and software, it won't be worth doing the Grid one...

I just went to http://www.bikirom.com/ - which where I think you said (earlier in this post) that you got the board from (not Grid as I said above). This project 1) looks to have come quite a way since this thread started, 2) is capable of real time updates, 3) is still being finished...

The early boards that started this thread aren't what is now being used, and the new boards 1) aren't available yet, 2) come with software, so we may not need to buy the MAP (his details on software are that great, so we still might need to..)

Ian

So we are waiting on the actual makers of the board? I suppose this wait is unknown?? Grrrr this is very frustrating...

What I'll do is start a new group buy thread in a moment where the number of people participating chip in evenly for the rom + address table.

How does that sound?

I'll keep checking back for that new thread with everything ready to go Ed hehe :)

Thanks fellas working on this - I'm sure this'll all pay off soon with an awesome group buy... CANT WAIT though lol!!

HI

This is all confusing for me but I am prepared to put up the $50 to keep it going.

My car is the same as Brazen's so I will need one for the Neo and Tiptronic.

Thanks for the hard hours you blokes have allready done.

Gary

PS just give me details when you need the money

This thread has got slightly confused - and it's probably my fault! Ed was looking at the Grid board, not the Badbiki one..

As I said above (nothing like quoting myself!) there are two different boards -

1) the grid one - which needs the maps fully understood. That's what started this thread.

2) The bikirom one (soon to be) which doesn't need the rom stuff, as it comes with software...

I can't seem to find many details about the grid one (ie I can't find it on there site, and Ed hasn't posted a link to it).

I'm going to do one or the other! And don't worry, it will suit a M-AT NEO, as that's what I've got:-)

2) The bikirom one (soon to be) which doesn't need the rom stuff, as it comes with software...

- badbiki is taking orders now and should be ready in a month price is now $300AUD .... however see below

and 3) NSX10AA WC34/ER34 only daughterboard. This is not a multiboard but specifically for your cars @ 5000yen ($61.04 AUD)

http://www2.odn.ne.jp/~caq00020/page.camera.htm

Ian - the bikirom software is just to upload the binary to the NVRAM on the daugtherboard via USB and also provides a graphical view of the maps like in Rom Editor (but also does consult display and extra features like my Nistune software)

i would think though it may not provide you with the ADR file mappings or the associated binary image dumps from these particular ECUs unless Lucus has been spending some time with ER34 ecus going through the images and locating the maps himself (you can check this with him).

as you know the ER34 ADR files didn't come with romeditor (which is where lucus and many others got the basic rom tuning info from) so i doubt they'll suddenly come out with bikirom

i think you may still have to buy the address file and/or 'normal data' image file (if the one downloaded from consult interface using nissandatascan, calumsult etc doesn't work). the one i made has the tables/maps but doesn't have TP CUT, or speed/rev limits

I'm always nervous buying the first release of something - particularly before it has been released! It's also in a critical position in the car! So I'll wait to see it actually arrive first..

The r34 one on that page is the NSX10AA - but that DOESN'T look like the the photo of the one mentioned by ed ie http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...achmentid=25808

So we all might be talking about more than one board...

I was guessing that it did - only because it would make sense that if you'd put that much work into the hardware' date=' you would have bought the map and done a bit of software to effectively use it :-)

Yep, I guess so - shall I add your id to the group buy for the table data?

I also had a quick look at your software page, and you seem to be on the right track. I'm just about sick of nissandatascan (it's a very crappy app) and might start my own next weekend (shouldn't take long to write something better..)

Ian

Ian - sorry to confuse things. The group buy proposed by Ed is the M377-2 you pictured. which is a multiboard, meaning it can be used for S13-S15 Silvia, 180SX etc. Picture this against the bikirom board and you can see where someone got the original pinouts from...

I was just mentioning a third alternative - the NSX10AA is a different board again with less parts

yeah i think my Nistune software will end up just reporting what consult is displaying, performing pinpoint map tracing and diagnostics.

consult protocol is limited to displaying 20 registers at a time and if you have a GTR with dual O2 sensors, AFMs etc you run out of registers quickly (2 registers are used for 16 bit values like MAF etc). so I have done things another way to display and log everything possible. the problem is the streaming used makes programming using consult difficult. i run two state machines in software to keep track of it all. i've only used an old version of nissandatascan. it does the job of displaying consult stuff but you can't do much else with it. also TP used for the X index in maptracing doesn't come as a consult register. it needs to be found and then read somehow from the ECU (like direct RAM read) to use it

the badbiki board USB module uses a FT232BM which is basically a USB-serial converter to what I think is an Atmel mega microcontroller. he mentions it takes over 1 minute to perform an upload 32K/64K image so he must be running it at 9600bps cos my romualtor takes seconds to upload at 115000bps and to download over consult (9600bps) takes about the same time (minute)

also because its serial, if the protocol to the bikirom board isn't make public, just put a TTL level sniffer on the lines from the FT232BM to the microcontroller and reverse engineer it ;-) that was how consult was cracked....

Yep - I think I'll start a full page on my web site that summarises everything in this thread....!

Have you used (or know someone who has) the NSX10AA?

It doesn't even do that very well, given I started 15 minutes ago, expect to see something better from me :-) within a week or two...

The streaming shouldn't make things to bad - as you can always stop it, then restart when you've finished..

also TP used for the X index in maptracing doesn't come as a consult register. it needs to be found and then read somehow from the ECU (like direct RAM read) to use it

The direct ram read doesn't look too hard to do

Yuck! Why bother going USB if you are going to use 9600!

also because its serial, if the protocol to the bikirom board isn't make public, just put a TTL level sniffer on the lines from the FT232BM to the microcontroller and reverse engineer it ;-) that was how consult was cracked....

Matt

Yep, I can see that - but you shouldn't need to, as he should make it public! My post on his forum has had no response, which is a bit worrying..

And I'm not 100% sure the consult interface HAS been 100% cracked - as I'm still surprised that the only active setting changes there are only last while the engine is running.. Surely there must be a way to save them!

Ian

Hey Ian!! can you put my name down on the list for the table too? Ive got no probs with putting in..

Also Ed - If theres anything that I can do to help you guys out just let me know

I've added you to http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...660#post1324660

which now gives 7, so that's $45 each and dropping. Anybody who participates in the buy will also get a free copy of whatever ROM editor I end up writing (assuming I do!)

Back to a question I asked earlier - has anyone got a link to a web page that states where/how we can by the map specification?

Asking again, where do we get the map from??? Surely the person who started this thread knows, or what was the point of this thread!!

    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
