What the hell is up with Shell at the moment?

Went to Dural Shell yesterday to fill up with optimax and there was no optimax or unleaded. "Ok" I thought, "I'll just get some tomorrow."

Anyway, went there again today. They have unleaded but no optimax? WTF?!?

So anyway, I decided to drive to Castle Hill Shell. NO bloody optimax there either!!!!!! Ended up putting $25 worth of BP Ultimate in at 116.9!!!!! (I wanted Shell because I had a voucher).

But GRRR!!! What's going on?!?

wil..

I'm looking out the window, and can see the sold out things on 3 of the pumps in Pennat Hills so doesnt look to good out this way at all!

baha posted in the wrong thread again!

I just tried calling and they arnt answering so dont know :D

yeah i find BP ultimate lasts longer.. i get about another 30kms outta my tank

this is true i think

been using optimax for months, getting round 400km a tank

wacked so ultimate in there and i hit 400km with just under a 1/4 tank left

niiiiiiiiiiice

Any word on the Shell situation?

Has anyone been to a shell in the northwest area since Friday? I still need fuel (only put in $25 on the friday). I might check this arvo after work at dural again.

Some people complain about petrol prices being 10c more expensive here or there. But like it really affects us... It might make a few dollars difference, you might be able to save $5 a week lol. We all put large amounts of money into our cars, I dont think it's going to affect our pocket very much.

I only use BP Ultimate so if it's $1.20, then its $1.20.. I'd prefer quality over price. The truth is whatever the petrol prices are, we gota pay it. I top my tank once a week & costs me usually $50 to $55. It was $1.16 last time, like I'm gona go put in Optimax coz it might have been $1.05.

dont care about the price of bang juice (cheeper than a v8) 4 the daily driver and have never used anything but senergy8000 a mobil fuel that can only b brought at top mobil servo's (WARNERS BAY) and thats 15 klms from home; BUT PEOPLE WILL use the fuel they think makes it go but (i would ask any 1 about the 8000' whats optimax 4000-6000ps always use the same number pump and same servo they way if u get the shit fuel ,u know who not to use but 1nce again ask about the mobil 8000 as it has been proven the best ( pump fuel)

cool... one thing though. This thread isn't about the quality of the fuel.

It's about the fact that there doesn't appear to be any optimax anywhere. You may not care about the price of fuel but I do. I have shopping vouchers which gets me 4c off per litre of optimax. Over the long run this is a lot of money!

Anyway, does anyone know whether Shell have Optimax again yet?

I've seen the same situation here in Melbourne over the weekend - pulled into a Shell station to get some optimax, but the pumps for Optimax were "not in use".

Ah well, in the past I only used Optimax... because the other fuel franchises hadn't started to offer a high octane (98+ RON) fuel yet. These days I've found I've had better performance with BP Ultimate which I use exclusively now, unless there's nothing else...

    • Thanks for the response. This is an 04 EP3 Type R. JDM spec. Fairly certain they're just basic BC racing coils. I do plan to keep as the ride quality on stock I've been told is pretty meh given Sydney roads. If I were to go down that avenue, does NSW require them to be a certain spec (close to original) etc?
    • Should have asked what is the car?
    • I've had two super conflicting experiences with blue slips. My 30 year old E39 waltzed through with no issues but my brother in law was knocked back on 12 y/o 3 series due to wiper blades and some cracking in a control arm bush.  What kind of coil overs? Do you want to keep them after?  If it was me I'd get some dirt cheap shocks and springs from eBay or scumtree. Not ideal but will get you over the line and might even be less than $1k.
    • Hey guys,  Way back when (about 15yrs plus), I picked up a beautiful set of Tein 'Super Racing Spec Circuit Master RE' coilovers from Russman. I have legit never fitted them to my car, as it was garaged indefinitely while i bought a house Yada Yada. They look brand new! Anyway its time to pick up where I left off, and have started doing some khanacross and am booked in for a hill climb next month. The car has some hard af Nismo shocks in ATM, which has me wanting to upgrade again, and now I am left wondering if it's worth having these teins rebuilt? I think they where an ok shock back then, but how do they compare to what's on the market now?  Shockworks/mca are 2800+, and I am sure they are great. But if I can have these rebuilt and be better than, say, a set of bc's for around the cost of bc's, I would be happy with the performance v cost trade off.  If they are considered outdated and rubbish these days, so be it, I'll put them on the shelf and be happy to look at the pretty green colour while I save for the SW/MCA option. Grateful for your thoughts on the matter, and suggestions on who could do the rebuild if it's a worthwhile pursuit.  cheers, Rowdy.
    • I can't speak for the US, but for Canada as I mentioned above, all fuel gases contain ethanol. We have regulations for E5/E10/E15. Each province handles it differently but basically any fuel gases sold must be E10 and slowly increasing to E15 by a certain year.
