Craved
y0 craved, my engine mount for the CA18 seems to be showin some stress due to engine twist. My fault I guess for doin some ghetto welds How much is the full engine and gearbox mount kit from where you got it? ok, the brother of the owner and i created a new one for the passenger side, the easiest thing i could suggest you could do is to create a JIG from your existing one including templates for the end plates, hole locations etc this would allow you to get these done extremely cheaply. and be easier than us designing them for you since we are using engine mounts from a jap spec corrolla (dont ask - they were already on it) take the JIG and the existing ones to an engineer, this would allow them to ceate them without having to work it all out, hence they just cut the steel and welding it for you.. would be stronger and the they wouldn't have to spend much time creating them. which will make it cheaper. take most of the labour out of the equation. the gearbox mount was simply a standard gearbox mount with the centre modified and a reinforcement plate welded to it to align with the mounting holes on the ca18 box ... not too much work involved, although the gearbox and everything is back in the car so i cant get photos for you. we have welded the new rear quater skirts and tailgate back on to remove the rust, the modified lower control arms have been lengthened and reinforced .. they are bolted back in , just waiting on the new custom sway bars to arrive. adjustable strut tops are in place.. just have to find a shock setup to allow a high level of lowering while maintaining a wide range of motion before bottoming out. can you confirm if the front suspension of an MR2 is usable on these? oh and use a higher grade of steel on the engine mounts.. what rubbers are you using? try and find something that has a harder compound.. as ours are a bit soft to cope with the ca18's power/torque movements. funkymonkey
not as fast as I'd hoped unfortunately... the engine will be put in sometime this month. I've been fixing up the little niggles and stuff on the R32, coz I'm looking at selling it soon, so the AE86 has sat in the back of the workshop for the last couple of months gathering dust. Me n inark are dabbling in some fiberglassing so we can make our own custom kits, but at this rate it might take us over a year Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/54507-ae86-discussion/page/7/#findComment-1536249 Share on other sites

funkymonkey
CA18DET, with CA18 gearbox, T18 diff and TRD 2 way LSD. Ended up deciding to try and adapt the S13 engine crossmember to fit onto the AE86 chassis, and at the same time mounting the S13 power steering and steering column in rather than using the less than inspirational toyota one. Craved
sounds like a little extra work with the S13 crossmember... but atleast then you would be able to use the STD. engine mounts. whats mods you have to do to use the steering column through the AE's firewall?? funkymonkey
dunno, will let you know when we get around to it still trying to fit the cross member and make the suspension fit. Worked out easier tho, all I had to get was an S13 cradle without engine, and got all the parts. Also means I'll get to use standard S13 bolt on suspension parts and have a smaller steering wheel lock.... and power steering Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/54507-ae86-discussion/page/7/#findComment-1543524 Share on other sites

funkymonkey
siiiif I'd waste my time on an S13 (the AE86's gettin most of the S13 parts anyways). Besides, with all the kids running around in widebody S13's S14's and S15's I need something different. Its for my R32, and no it'll be done sooner than 2 years, maybe next year or something. lol I cbf. Here's the finished product on a car in JP.
