I want to swap my front brakes for R33 brakes, I have a few questiosn that hopefully I can get a few answers on -

1) Is it just a case of swapping the calipers and rotors for the R33 ones?

2) Will the stock R32 master cylinder be ok

3) What rotors should I run - new stock or something a little better - will be using Racebrakes RB74 pads

4) Will they fit behind the standard rims?

5) Is there any other things I haven't thought of?

Some info on brakes, master cyliners and rotors

R32 GTST

Master Cylinder diam (mm) - 25.4

Front Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 40.4 ×4

Front rotors (diam x thk) - 280×30

Rear Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 38.18×2

Rear Rotors (diam x thk) - 297×18

R33 GTST

Master Cylinder diam (mm) - 23.8

Front Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 40.4 ×4

Front rotors (diam x thk) - 296×30

Rear Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 38.18×2

Rear Rotors (diam x thk) - 297×18

Now the interesting bit...:P

R32 GTR (Non V-Spec,)

Master Cylinder diam (mm) - 25.4

Front Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 40.4 ×4

Front rotors (diam x thk) - 296×32

Rear Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 38.18×2

Rear Rotors (diam x thk) - 297×18

R32 GTR V-Spec / R33 / 34 GTR with Brembos

Master Cylinder diam (mm) - 26.9

Front Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - (44+38)×2 ... leading pistons larger then trailing

Front rotors (diam x thk) - 324×30

Rear Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 40×2

Rear Rotors (diam x thk) - 300×22

So there isnt much difference between the Brembos and the std Nissan R32/33 GTST calipers and R32 GTR calipers.

If you want a brake upgrade id say go grab some DBA4000 meant for ther GTR , which are 324 x 30mm ...(DBA5000 if you can afford them) All you will need is a bracket to offset the caliper to suit the larger rotor.

Id stick with the std R32 GTST calipers. R33 calipers look better but hardware wise i think you will find they do the exact same job:)

Cheers for the info mate, the big thing for me is that they HAVE to fit under my 16" P1's, other wise there is no point me upgrading.

The main reason I want to go for the 33GTS calipers is so I run the bigger disk without fouling the rim, and being that bit bigger, hopefully they will do a decent enough job

Currently I am running some type of slotted rotor and racebrake RB74 pads, they work well, but I think with a bit more grunt and a upcoming driver training/track day early december, something a bit more substantial is required

What do you reckon?

O would not see any issues fitting the R33 brakes behind your 16" rims........R33's came stock with 16's, depending on the offset of your P1's you may require small spacers, simple fix.

If you do go ahead with this i would be interested in purchasing your R32 discs and calipers.

I will be going ahead with this, as I have already found some calipers and paid a deposit, just need to know if its going to be a simple task :D

Id use DBA 296mm rotors. The R32 GTST caliper is the same as the R33 GTST caliper isnt it. If it bolts to the hub and automatcally clears the larger rotot then fair enough, but im not sure if that will be the case. Intersting to see if the hub is different or the wings of the caliper are different

Larger master cylinder means the piston is bigger, sdo for say 10mm movement pisplaces more brake fluid so in theory should equate to a little more pressue in the lines?!?! I think, not 1000% sure

I know that the R32 caliper will not accept a 296mm rotor, tried that already :) from what I can see, the R33 caliper is mounted up a little more to make room for a bigger rotor

From what I can gather of the wrecker I am getting them of, its a simple case of unbolting the 32 calipers, put the 33 disc on and caliper and that should be it

I reckon you are pretty spot in re master cylinder stuff

They are bolting everything back on now, pipes and other shit, and tune is happening now I spose. I am leaving here in about 40 mins to go and hopefully see the final tuning etc and drive it home, Shaun reckons it should be all done by about 7ish, as they have to get the car out to make way for a few more booked in for tomorrow

Bummer about your car, at least they are not giving it to you until they are happy with it, should be great mate! :D

the rear disc size is 297mm as Roy says hehe

btw, R32 GT-R discs have angled cooling vanes in the middle, compared to the straight vanes of R32/R33 GTS-T discs. That, combined with its extra thickness and 296mm size, gives it better performance over extended track sessions (>10 laps). The R32 GT-R caliper is physically bigger than the R32 GTS-T's caliper, similar size to R33 GTS-T but slightly different design.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.

    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
