I'm sure this has been asked before, but i can't seem to find the thread.

Anyway, I've read that the build quality of the skyline is better because its more of a GT car.

But how does the 180sx compare to a R32 gtst or gts4 mod for mod?

It seems like 200rwkw out of a RB20DET should be quite achievable with a FMIC, exhaust, new turbo and remapped ECU? Would the same work for the SR20DET?

Also, out of the gtst and gst4, which would be the 'better' skyline? Lastly, would a GTR be worth over twice the price of a gtst/4?

Sorry about the huge number of questions (which have probably been answered a million times already), but any more help would be appreciated! :D

The SR20DET is just as moddable as an RB20DET, so no problems there. Try and secure a ride or test-drive of both a 180SX and a R32 GTS-t before making any decisions. Common thoughts on the R32 GTS-4 is that it's too heavy for the RB20 its' driven by.

Ok,

Mod for Mod, an sr20 will walk away from an rb20 no matter who you talk to. As for your decision, I own an r32 gts4 and am about to swap the engine for the larger and more mod happy rb25. Now depending on what power you are looking for, say 200kw You can probably just stick with the rb20 but if you want more power and a hell of alot more low down torque that you should change to an rb25. My point is go for the gts4 just for the attesa, and even if you want to drift occasionally than just rig up a switch for the attesa to be on or off. best of both worlds.

As for the 180sx, I have previously owned one as my first car, and I have nothing but praise for the sr20, it was a fantastic engine, combined with the light weight and the stunning good looks you cant go wrong. Although my 180 never broke down on me, I think it is safe to say the sr20 is damn reliable and will easily attain your 200kws. But when you start to modify you wont be able to stop. The 180 has fantastic handling, I think it was alot better than my gts4, even with the awd. Also the brakes on the 180 were better and had better fuel consumption. (mine sat on about 11-12 most of the time during hard driving). I'm personally about to buy a second car, a pulsar gtir, which combines my love of awd with the fantastic sr20.

As for buying a gtr, I say dont worry about it. With the power level your looking at you dont need the rb26 .Either buy a gts4 and put in an rb25, or modify a 180 to the sh*thouse. Both fantastic cars.

Hope that helps, let me know what car you buy!! Good luck.

Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
