Well as many of you may know I have been having some power problems for some time now, took the car to a mechanic on friday as last thursday my car decided to sound like a WRX, found out my pistons are screwed so looks like i am up for a engine rebuild, not very happy but a result from running 12 psi with only a stock intercooler in our hot climate. I always thought this was a safe pressure to run. i guess i will stick to 10psi until i can get myself a FMIC.

Im awaiting the bill from the mechanic hope its all fixed and ready for the MSCIII.

hmm after finding out getting new pistons done is going to cost me over 4g, i am just going to replace the engine.

4G!! who quoted that? U can get good new forged pistons for about $1300

So if all u wanted to do was pistons then it shouldnt be more than 2K max.

If Changing engine you must, then transplant godzilla engine you shall :D

um nah just getting another s2 engine found one for 2g so going to grab that, 4g for the pistons was only after everything like labour and rings and everything like that. yeah the pistons themselves were only 1300. either way i figure i am going to gwet screwed over so im pretty cut.

wouldn't worry too much ben.. if you can get that engine for $2k and its all ok, you should get at least $1000 for you old engine if you separate it into parts - probably a fair bit more. People are always chasing bits and pieces that most wreckers tell them they have to buy the whole thing.

head: $600

coilpacks: $200

ignitor: $80

loom/ecu: $400 (if you don't need these)

bottom end: $300 (even if it is dead.. people might want spare stock pistons, etc)

etc, etc..

For instance, I need a stock manual flywheel ;)

I could have done the whole job for you for $2500.

I just did mine myself...all up cost me $3200 but I put another head on it and moly rings and race bearings. did button clutch and cleaned all the injectors too.

Anyway....hope your other engine works out and let me know if you want a hand dropping it in. I'm in Brissy also.

    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
    • Sorry I meant that we are building the EH for a client.

    • I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed
