Will three 52mm gauges fit in a DIN slot?

I want to change the factory 3 gauge cluster for oil temp, oil pressure and water temp, but don't want to get the DEFI triple set as they don't have warnings.

Can I squeeze three 52 mm warning gauges into a din DIN slot? Has anyone done this? I realise that a DIN space is only 50mm…

cheers

u can fit them into the dim but might be abit challanging to get the to stay secure in the console....

i was jst doing that yesterday..... with the $20 3x52mm dim setup.. but they wont stay or clip in securely....

i might need to custom make the dim my self...

I'm going to give it a go.. I have 2x 2" (50.8mm) guages right at the moment.. just need the 3rd when I work out which will be most useful :D

I bought a piece of carbon fibre the right size for $20 to make the DIN.. It will need some brackets.. I am 95% positive its all going to fit correctly in the space.

I think it will all work and come up pretty awesome when done.

Yepp, three 52mm gauges fit well :D

Have a look at this thread, down the bottom on the first page;

And the PDF document for the plans on how to make them up is here

Big thanks to RB25 for the plans :D

Awesome... was always going to "DIY", just wanted to make sure that the gauges actually fit in before i went buying them :D

cheers, all!!

ps, also going to tackle the angled look using bog for true ricer style... oh yeah!!

Hey I had a peice of carbon fibre coated fibreglass which I was going to use but that looks much nicer.

Just out of interest how come it doesn't stay in securely? Do you mean the gauges won't fit or that the mounting thingy won't clip into anything?

If it's just not clipping in I might just buy it and stick it to my own mount so it screws/secures into where the stereo sits... this way I won't have to play around angling my gauges it will already be angled for me (that's where the $20 is worth it).

If it actually won't fit 52mm gauges cos they stick out or whatever then I'll stick with my full DIY jobbie.

my car came with 3 hks guages (water temp, exhaust temp and boost) pre fitted into the top din just below the aircon controlls. they arnt slanted but there still piss easy to read at just a glance(looks like there supposed to be there its that good). when i get home ill post a pic of it if i remeber

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
