well, no, you don't have to pay GST on an item purchased overseas... as the service takes place overseas. The only time you'd have to pay GST is if you paid Duty at the customs, because you'd be paying GST on the duty... kapish? Its the whole tax on a tax thing... old news.

You'd think so, but I bought something from OS (a power FC actually) and got the dude to write the tarrif exemption code on it, it was held by customs. I had to pay GST, but not duty (as per the duty exemption). Funky, you may know more than me, and if you have documentation to prove it I'd love for you to give it to me so I can try and get that GST back :)

is there any advantage to running a PowerFC on a (near)standard GTR?

On a GTR with say upgraded turbos/injectors etc.. i can see the need...

Well the A/F levels on Jap imports tend to run rather rich even in stock form, so tuning for our local fuel is not a bad idea IMHO.

Plus most people have the usual induction and exhaust modifications which makes the A/F ratios even worse.

Lucien.

The benefits, however, are:

[*]The units are $987.75: I have never seen new PFCs w/ hand controllers for <$1000.  That's almost AVC-R money.

Just to let you know, the Apexi PFC are now bundled with the Hand controller so it's not anything special as such by any particular shop.

Though his price looks good, a little cheaper then most shops. I see the one week only reason.

Yup, your right. My point was that its a package as somepeople still assume that PFCs come seperately.

Running rich isn't so bad, its safer for the engine than running lean ?

So you recon fuel economy is the advantage on a stock GTR?

Running rich is a very good strategy by car makers to ensure they don't have cars returned with bung engines :)

On a stock to lightly modified GT-R, you could easily get away with an SAFC-II, but then they are ~$400 and when you make any major modifications you will probably want to upgrade.

Basically, its overkill, but its more futureproof IMHO. I will be putting one on my (basically) stock GT-R and getting it tuned for local fuel conditions. I expect there to be some small gains in fuel effeciency and by leaning out the A/Fs, some power gains. Quite how large or small, I'm not sure. It might be worth bugging a tuner (Dr Drift, SK, etc) to get some idea of the benefits on a stock car.

Edit: List updated: we are halfway there now folks. Fingers crossed. I meant SAFC not AVC-R

Lucien.

I wouldn't bother with an AVC-R either, I'd do the same as you PowerFC, but just not sure if i can justify it. I'd like the hand controler so i can limit rpm to say 3000rpm when leaving it at a workshop or somthing like that etc... and I'd may get a fatter power curve or something, but my AFR are pretty good with the standard ECU (its chipped by some company i've never heard of) So not sure if its worth me wasting my money on it.

If we get the 20 im IN, any updates on the pro vs the normal??

since the pro version cuts spark at rev limit not fuel!

have the cash now so put me down, and if cheap enough the PRO version for:

S1 r33 RB25DET!!

Cheers

Craved: I am waiting till numbers are a little bit closer to 20 till I chat to Nengun about complicating things by asking about Pro specs.

AFAIK, the Pro's are also made by AP Engineering... They also don't come with hand controllers.

Anyway, I have added you to the list with a little note about preferring a Pro if possible.

Lucien.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
