Hey guys,

Well, we dynoed my RB26DETT 240SX today...

The first time we dynoed at factory boost settings, which on my boost guage was 9 PSI...

We made 320 rwhp or 239 kw, I believe this is about average for stock ecu, stock motor, etc...

Our importer thinks the motor had cams, but we aren't sure... It does have a lope to it, and if I was a betting man, I would think there is...

Maybe you guys can took a look at my dyno chart and give me an idea of what you think...

On the second pull, we upped the boost to 15 PSI, or 1 bar...The car pulled timing and started knocking...

I'm not sure if it was the fact we only had 93 octane gas in the tank, or whether the timing might be advanced too much...

The first graph is of the stock pull at 9 PSI... The second graph shoes all three pulls, with the last two being at 15 PSI...

Thanks!

Chris

Do you guys think the car has cams based on this dyno?

I was really impressed for having a totally stock motor, stock ecu, etc...

The only mods were downpipe and exhaust...

Boost controller turned to 15 PSI for the last two runs...major knocking...and not sure why...

I think you will find that the US rate their fuels differently to us in OZ, so 93 isnt equiv to OZ 93RON, actually i cant recall the unit they use but its not RON.

I take it when you say stock motor, you arent including exhaust, filter, intercooler etc With exhaust, good IC and filters and 1 bar of boost id say that would be pretty typical rwkws for an RB26.

Yeah, for 9 PSI, it's very impressive.. The sound is so loud of those turbos...

The guys that were there were commenting on how nice it sounded..

You would have really thought it was two HKS turbos with all the noise...Very loud for stock...

But, what do you guys think about the whole cam situation? Do you think it has them?

Also, why do you think we were getting knocking on the 15 PSI run?

We think that the timing may have been advanced by whatever Japanese person last had the motor... We assumed it was stock and never messed with it...

But after the knocking tonight, and the the fact that it looks advanced, we are going to check it...

Tomorrow we will be adding 118 octane race fuel and giving a 15 PSI pull...

Just from the graph she looks pretty much stock, there are other stock rb26 pulling higher figures in oz.

Also i believe and knows dynojet dyno give a higher reading than our dyno dynamic ones.

Don't let the low number dicourage u, there are ppls on here with huge hp from a stock motor with some bolt on stuff,

A cam motor has a sharper rise ihp section dependant where it comes on and alot of time when u get a motor, you usually get the aftermaket turbo free before the cams.

Aftermarket cam gear is another giveaway.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
