Hey guys.. after all the recent incidents on the road's i feel i need to get my cars problem sorted.. (its a R33 GTS-T btw)

ive had it 'droped' only a inch or 2 right around.. but ive only used springs. no other componants.

ive got a set of good quality TEIN springs.

but after this.. the car feels REALLY unsafe and insecure. it feels to jerk around, its really bouncy. and feels unstable. on the highways doing 100km/h it doesnt feel very sound.

on boost if you hit little bumps on the road it looses traction because it jumps around so much.. clunking and all sorts of shit.

i dont have the cash right now for a full upgrade from whiteline or anything but am willing to spend 500 or so for the time beign to fix.

any idea on whats wrong or what other parts i need?

sounds like the springs you got are way too stiff, which is usually the case with jap aftermarket springs, it would have been a safer bet to get some whiteline springs...or local ones where u know how stiff they are..

stiff springs in conjunction with your (probably?) stock shocks = adding to the problem..

so if i were u i would change the springs again.

How "adjustable" is your suspension? It's possible that the weight distribution is all wrong after the ride height was adjusted.

It's probable that the shocks are not matched to the springs. Stiff springs and soggy shocks don't really work well together.

aftermarket shocks will probably help,

but all tein springs ive seen are wayy to stiff so yeah in combination with the probably worn shocks things are not working.

new shocks will cost u more than 500 though...

also your bushes might need replacement, (made apparent by new stiff suspension)

Hi, with what sik said about most jap aftermarket springs being too hard. some are hard and some are soft. Some coilovers are also adjustible from soft to hard.

Tein make a very nice range of combos. Some offer a very nice ride, still with feel. Others are much harder.

The problem is (i'm very interested, so i've had a play and own many many sets of suspensions, so I'm no noobie):

People just go, oh, I wanna lower my car, so they buy a shorter set of springs, like king low or super low. But these aren/t designed for the stock shocks.

By reducing the travel of the stockos by 2 inches, basically, think about it, i'm not being sarcastic, but the shock has a lot less travel and damper than it was designed for. What you need, is something that was designed to operate in those lower conditions. Take a look at the tein site - www.tein.co.jp and notice how their lower shocks have a much wider tube, scuh that it actually can still damp when it's shorter compared to the stocko. Just to prove my point, the stocko will keep hitting the bump stop and basically get destroyed in a couple months.

sik, you were 100% on the money, new shocks are definitely needed, and probably the bushes will be worn. No biggy really, don't stress, they aren't that expensive.

    • Reading through the engine service manual their advice is do a cylinder balance test. Unplug one injector at a time and see if the idle drops a consistent RPM. You can also do this using a Consult cable which is easier. They also call for unplugging the power transistor, then with the engine off and the fuel rail unhooked from the manifold verifying that you have good fuel flow (even injection, no dripping/leaks, etc) when you twist the CAS by hand. Also verify the spark by pulling the spark plugs and allowing the plugs to ground and turning the CAS by hand. I would also start doing the sensor checks and idle valve checks in service manual. Make sure the MAF tests reasonably, the intake air regulator is sane, etc. You may have to get new spark plugs.
    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
