Just a quick question, my RWC mechanic mentioned something to me about when the compliance joint put the new exhaust on, they didn't put back (or even drill a hole for) an oxygen sensor..

Now I know I'm new to this but I was under the impression the airflow sensor was in the intercooler/intake piping?

Does anyone know if I'm wrong or what he is talking about?

karag I'd like to know what is up also.

I have a sensor on my dumppipe hangin off the turbo and also one undearneath the car that's meant to go into the exhaust somewhere. This is not hooked up .. it was just hangin off the bottom of the car (I've tucked it up and away now).

Still not sure what the ramifications of it are  let us know how you go.

OK, the sensor in the dump pipe just behind the turbo is your O2 sensor. The one down further is supposed to go into your Catalytic converter. It is an exhaust heat sensor and IS NOT required for roadworthy. If you look on your dash there is a light that looks like a cat converter with three little steam looking things coming off it. That's the light for it.

It senses when the catalytic converter becomes too hot IE. Blockage or running extremely rich and the light comes on. Pretty basic. If you are worried about it. all you gotta do is go to a bolt place and get a nut that will suit the thread on the sensor. All you gotta do then is take the nut into your local Exhaust shop and tell them you want the sensor welded back in. They just have to drill an equivalent hole (as close to the back of the cat as possible) and weld the nut into place. Easy as.

Just make sure he is careful while welding as he may distort the nut and you won't be able to screw in the sensor.

They should only charge about $30 or something similar.

It will take no longer than half an hour so don't let them sting you for it.

It won't be your o2 sensor I don't think because for compliance they change the catalytic converter and it is too hard to weld the nut and crap like that. They just want it cheap and quick, so they leave them out. Hondas have the same setup.

    • You'd want to cap off the re-entry back into the dump too. Just something flat that can be held on by the Vband.
    • Thanks for the recap Matt Z. It was a great day out and I know you have said it already, but we couldn’t have done it without the volunteers.
    • Couldn't agree anymore, massive thanks to all that came by, helped out, or those who just wanted to talk cars. You are the community that make this such a great car club. cant wait for what we have planned for the future
    • Looking at the photos, you could easily just drop this pipe and dump into atmosphere  Just 1 or 2 quick hits for data acquisition - if have a heat shield material and/or sheet metal, maybe just use wire/metal cable ties and attach it in a way to deflect heat from melting nearby wires.
