Tapping sound, cold idle

Hi all,

My R32 GTR has a tapping sound in the engine on cold-start idle.

The sound is not there under throttle.

The sound is not there once the engine is warm (some driving) and idle.

My friend says it's lifters and that I should use diesel oil to quiten them.

What do others think?

My friend says it's lifters and that I should use diesel oil to quiten them.

RB26 engine uses 'solid' lifters with correct cam clearance adjusted by using various thickness shims under the lifter buckets. Your friend is assuming you have hydraulic lifters, but this method will have no effect.

Assuming the noise is related to cam lobe clearance, probably best to check all the clearances or have them checked.

isnt it because when its cold generally there is no oil in the lifters? so its just got to bleed a little bit of oil into it then its sweet...

Refer to solid lifter comment above :(
