hi, ill try keep this short and sweet.

My first post and i have tried searching teh forum for info to no avail, so please dont flame me.

I currently have been driving an S13 k's and im considering buying an R32 GTR.

I dont wish to modify it or if i do i will keep it very simple and basic, as i love these cars in their pure original form.

I have seen many r32 gtr pop up for good prices and i am a little sus as to problems i may run into if i get one. I have been a very keen silvia fan for many years however i am not so informed when it comes to skylines (i know the basics) and particualry the gritty details that i wish to know when buying ect.

Are there any links you can give me where i can read about comon problems, specific things to check out and so forth.

I realise that r32s are getting really old now so i assume they will have quite a few problems associated with age.

any help, link to threads, links to webpages ect is appreciated

thanks,

Emil

BTW: Im sorry if this is posted in the wrong section as im still trying to navagate the forum sections ect. Could a mod please move should it be so.

crap my net jsut screwed up when i had writtena long post!!grr

anyway, i really need info about r32 gtr's. i know getting an inspection is good idea, but i would prefer to educate myself as much as i can prior.

i can afford the car initially, but i wont be able to afford major repairs ect.

I assume the maintenace is similar to other imports? i cant see how it can be much more expensive.

Im also intersted in buying a stock gtr (and keeping it stock) so i figure this will make it "safer" for me when/if buying?

Hey Emil,

My advise is get a GTR if you can afford one.

Budget yourself about 28k for the car.. and make sure you constantly have about 8k sitting in a bank tied up in a savings account in case it breaks down (and it will) eg. if you need an engine rebuild. Dont think your going to get away without having problems, and on a car like this the costs are enormous.

Remember that pretty much every single part that you replace on a GTR is going to cost up to 3x as much as your silvia.

My advise would be keep the silvia, thrash the crap out of it until it dies and you have a considerably decent amount of money invested.. THEN get the GTR :)

nooo, this isnt what i want to hear!!

oh well i guess my dream is dead then.

I just cant comprehend spending heaps of money on mods on my silvia with the knowledge that i will sell it in a few years to "upgrade".

hmm now i dont know what to do

i thought a gtr would have been reasonably reliable, not to mention the rb26

Rb26's are not as bulletproof as people seem to think, i know this first hand, and as pentae said everything is hugely more expensive, mine blew up 5 days after i bought it and it was inspected by myself and a very good mechanic.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
