Ok now guys this is going a bit far, theres no need for name calling..

I agree simply because you are on your "L"s, your"P"s or on your full license this does not mean you should be anymore unpenalised for breaking the law, whether your going 10 over or 100 over the penatly should be the same. For both P platers and those who have their full license. You should all take into consideration that once apon a time you were starting out driving with your parents beside you, and then moving on with your P's being the excited kid you were to be finally alone or with your friends in the car. It's a new area of responsiblity that some take a little to lightly by being influenced by friends or those people who intimidate you outside the car to speed up or do some neg driving. We all need to be safe on the road.. and controlling the temptation to show off is one way i guess..

I agree also that the media and police automatically target imports, P plated cars or just cars with the simplest mod on it like rims!! Drives me nuts! And gives us all a bad rep. You always see things like "P plater accident" or "Import accident" or "high preformance car accdient" and more recently "skyline accident" it hurts to read each one of these things.. sometimes i wish they would just keep it to themselves and stop trying to word bash anyone with a better car than them!

I hope that kid caught speeding dies. Idiots like that don't deserve to live. Its the people around them I worry for (passengers, other drivers, families of crash victims).

$1000 on the kid not being able to drive it well. Probably hasn't even done an advanced driving course.

LOL, dude ive done 170 on my 1989 holden barina 1L engin, (well just 1s around 3 in the morning, no cars nuthing).

driving like an idiot again i see... :D

170 in a '89 barina?? That would be dropped out of a plane @ 30,000 feet, hitting terminal velocity yeah? cos that sure ain't happening on a road

maybe if you were driving down the face of Mt Everest

Maybe that kid one day will be your kid.. Do you still hope he dies?

Sure he deserves a good knock around but not death. :D

I seem to remember a few years ago (in adelaide) back when i was driving rotaries that cops were all over them like a rash and it blew over...I kinda of don't think its going to go away that easily...

Hippy i agree with you, pose restrictions on P plater drivers and provide some kind of driver training when they are elgible to be driving these higher powered cars in much the same way as they do with the WRX now...I know my skyline is my first turbo car i enjoy it but i learnt how to drive in shitheaps and i think the biggest problem now a days is the banks are so easy to get money out of to get a loan for a car, where as 7 or so years ago your first car would be a gemini or something, now its a skyline/silvia/etc etc...Big step from nothing to a car like that.....

the thing that gets me the most is that it isnt the car thats the problem, its the drivers. simple

also its not just the younger generation its also the oldies that need some training... the amount of times ive seen anyone 30+ in an accident is almost 10 to 1

the amount of times ive almost had a guy sideswipe me for not looking cos hes "had enough years of experience to be a good driver and never sideswipe anyone". this mentality seems to be rampant with the older generation and drives me up the wall whenever i see the media go psycho about some kid who didnt indicate when "he turned out of a roundabout"

im actually suprised that some journo hasnt done a big segment on today tonite about a bad p plater who didnt indicate at 2am or some crap like that

in the end its the driver who controls the car, not the other way around. i dont c how the media doesnt happen to acknowledge this as the main reason. this country seems to go backwards every day. getting sick of it and thinking bout moving to the moon where no ****er can annoy the shit out of me

It just so happens that modified cars stand out, therefor people will clearly remember a modified car doing 80kms in a 60kms zone over a family sedan doing the same.

Its just how it is unfortunatly.

not always the case, i was traveling near holsworthy doing 80 in a 60 or 70 zone with 3 other cars, all family cars, i have a modified black skyline with 3" exhaust aftermarket wing and shit. the cops done a u-turn came up behind me trailed me for a bit, waited till the highyway, kept following me, over took me put on its lights and got the other dood

This isnt so much a roads and young drivers problem, its a media problem. The problem existed back when my old man had his MG, Valiant etc etc. It exists today. We should of course look at trying to reduce the road toll...but...

When the revolution comes, i bags to be the the 1st one to line up the media/journalists against the wall and shoot them.:headshot:

The way they go about reporting news stories, and god help us creating new stories, or sculpting the content to serve a means sh1ts me no end. Independent media? I doubt, journalists are human so...so work it out:(

Meh, dont get me started, the problem wouldnt be near as hard to solve if the media werent there causing hysteria:(

:D

W3rd to that

i cant agree at all with kamikazeR33's post at all.............

firstly saying that you've seen 10 times the number of over 30's in accidents could be true but it completely contradicts the results the governments have published and that was discussed earlier. the fact is, is that males under 25 are more likely to crash than any other demograph. this isnt a comment on the indivdual but an entire demograph and has to be taken like that..............

lets see how it looks when the logic some people are displaying here is applied to a different argument, like gun control

"LOL, dude ive done 170 on my 1989 holden barina 1L engin"

implying that any car can speed................

well, the reason guns are banned is because they kill people, but i could take a chair and hit someone over the back of the head with it and kill them, so why not have chair control laws??

unlike other cars.........sports cars are designed to go fast, barina's are not, they're designed to get you from a-b in girly comfort. sports cars get their optimal performance going speeds that are suited to a track but are illegal on the public roads.

car control laws are made for the hoons and applied to all who fall in the demograph they target. these laws and the people who make them arn't saying that you personally cant handle a sports car, but they are saying that there is too many people your age who cant, and to save lives they'll ban them outright or you could put of with getting pulled over by the cops even more than young drivers do now to see if you are allowed to drive the car. either that or make it a hell of a lot harder to get a licence, cause it's way to easy right now (took me 3 weeks learning, first go, no non-criticals and i'm nothing special)

there's a lot of flawed logic here

but yeah, journalists are arseholes...........they'll move onto 4WD's soon.

the reason they would have stopped targeting rotaries is because with the RX8 they'd be pulling over a hell of a lot of businessmen with mid life crisies.....

If any of you guys and girls read Speed read the editors comments for this month, fit into this convo quiet well

Bahahah hilarious and so true

    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
    • Can you also make sure the invoices on the box (And none exist in the boxes) are below our import duty limits... I jest, there's nothing I need to actually purchase and order in. (Unless you can find me a rear diff carrier, brand new, for stupidly cheap, that is for a Toyota Landcruiser, HZJ105R GXL, 2000 year model...)
