hey i got a r32 gtr, and i recently changed its timing belt and spark plugs.

i just started it and it idles good but wont rev over 3000rpm, plus theres a loud whining noise coming from the timing belt cover.

i tihnk i over tighene the belt, which is causing the whining.

any ideas why it cuts out at 3000rpm?

i gapped theplugs correctly, 1.1mm,

i also cleaned the afms with metho, would that stuff em up?

thanx

steve

thanx for the replys but ive foun the problem. it ended up being the afm wiring. i jiggled it and it fixed the problem. im gonna have cut the bad bit out and rewire it.

i also just sligtly loosened the timing belt but its still whining. i noticed that the belt is rubbing on the little cover on the crankshaft, its one that goes on before the main pulley goes on.

i understand its to stop the belt from coming off, but this is actually rubbing the side of the bellt of so you can see the thread.

how can it be fixed???

steve

i replaced the two little plates that sit on the crack shaft and protect the timing belt(before and after the crank gear....only because i had such a bad time removing the pulley that i bent them slightly and was making the slightest whirring noise that drove me mad.

also apparently hi performance belts make some noise compared to geniune oem ones depending what they're made of.

George

There shouldnt be any noise from a timing belt.

Is the belt sitting in the middle of the cam gears and crank gear?

It shouldn't be running on anything.

The only thing that could possibly make a noise is the belt tensioner if the bearings are shot

Are you sure you haven't got the 'cover' (like a large thin washer ??) backwards ?? It will rub on the belt if it's not installed the right way round .....

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
