on huge worry is that (going by the policy pdf from their site), there is absolutely no cover if the car is parked overnight (11pm-8am) on street or in a public carpark (as Moanie had mentioned before), though public carpark is also defined as "...privately owned/operated or local authhority owned/operated car parks"

i read this to take that secure carparks (owned/operated privately) would not be covered, so basically you couldn't park you car anywhere at night unless it is in a driveway, garage...

i really hope this isn't the case because lets face it if you take your car to the city etc.. you would park in a secure parking station, and it wouldn't be covered..

might be worth double checking before going ahead...

though i hope that it isn't really an issue, and i am just being paranoid!

That is at the end of the policy document and they are simply definitions of conditions that COULD be placed on your policy, but aren't necessarily. So it's only if your policy has that restriction placed on it. You'll notice that in the same section they define the 'limited use' thing where you nominate to only drive it 3 days a week.. obviously that doesn't apply to every policy either.

i had enough of insurance companys i rang up just cars to renew my quote after 2 weeks. and it was 3235 and then the guy goes hold on a sec so i hold he comes back and goes your new quote is 4011 .

and i say listen mate iam not blaming you u doing ur job but how the **** can it go up 800 buckz in 2 weeks wtf is that bullshit man

tell me why plz

he goes ohh the girl didnt put the risk factor on your car right etc

i said ermm yes

see yaa.

and then i rang 5 min later and the other guy goes nah its gone up by 50 buckz wtf wrong with these poelpe

i rang up roybn and she gave me a rought quote of $3000 grand and i spoke about mods she said its fine if you let us know

i love em +) they rock less stress of my mind now =)

Dragon i have had the same thing with another company that i was with .. they said $1400 i called twice to confirma that..i wne to pay it and they said $2300 and i gave them the details and persons name i was talkin to and they go..sorry they stuffed up...twice.

Make sure when u talk to anyone and get quotes and stuff ... always get the persons name so if anything goes wrong .. u can tell them the person that quoted you. then u might have a chance of getting it at the original peice ...they seem to bugger up a lot.

The Scottish guy is Tommy. I found him very helpful.

What exactly was the problem? You wanted to change your age to 20 to see what the quote was? Keep in mind that Famous don't use computer calculators to work our premiums, it's pretty much contingent on each person which can lead to some inconsistencies.

e.g. I called up and I am 20 with a 20% NCB, then my mate called up who is 21 and said he had a 30% NCB. His premium was more expensive by a few hundred (for EXACTLY the same car).

But he ended up getting a different car and a cheaper quote in the end.

Cheers,

Tim

I went through Australian Insurance Brokers (they basically find the cheapest insurance for you) and they ended up getting me a quote for $2800 with famous classic cars...i was impressed!!  Especially since my next best quote was with Just Cars for 5k!

I don't think they care how much its modified as long as its street legal, and you aren't insured between 11pm and 8am if you leave your car parked on the street - in a driveway/secure parking/actually being with the car is ok..... :(

If you ring them up and say you got a quote of $2800 from AIB then they will beat it by at least $200 thats what they did when I called for my dad...

I called them up and Robyn quoted me $2600. I already had a quote from Young and Cool for $1950, so told her that and she gave me my insurance for $1800. I took them up on it. Now i just have to hope that their underwriting is ok if I kill my car :( More importantly though, I hope I'm covered if I take out a Lexus.

I checked the company out a little bit, but I've got nothing conclusive yet except that it APPEARS (note, this is not confirmed) that both the underwriting company and Famous have the same company directors (those 2 Scottish guys). If you check up the ABNs, you'll find that Famous isn't the name of the company listed for the ABN they give (AGAIN, please note, this is not necessarily a bad thing - I really don't know if this has any significance).

One other thing, the company itself says they are registered offshore at present, and the previous underwriters didn't give them a good enough deal, so they didn't renew their contract with them.

I must stress that I am not trying to say anything bad about the company (hell, I'm insured with them myself), but I just thought you all might like to know a little extra info.

Cheers,

Michael

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
