hey,

I have an 1993 R32 GTST and just blew a box. I have heard that rb20 boxes arnt much good and to go for an rb25 box. I have heard its a bit dearer and harder to do but is it worth it? has anyone else done this transfer and had good results? My car makes 345rwhp so it has to handle that,

thanks

Hey man,

I have also gone through a couple of RB20 boxes. The fact is, you only have to go through 2 Rb20 boxes to equate to the cost of an Rb25 box. If you can afford it, putting the RB25 box in is the go - just make sure you find someone that knows exactly what they have to do. When i was making enquiries about rb25 box in my r32, i found myself having to tell the mechanics what to do rather than them telling me what they had to do... which scared me.

Good Luck with it man.

thanks,

i have a guy who I kinda know that put a rb25 in his 32. He seems to know what he is talking about so I think that mite be the way to go. I have a 5 puck sprung os giken extreme clutch so it would be a bit nasty on the box too. Apparently you have to shorten your tailshaft and change the speedo gear so the speedo reads rite? dunno, stupid gearbox.

i have 270rwk and my rb20 box is alive and fine

i have the same and the box has ben geting a bigger whine each week.

Not its so loud you'd think the car was supercharged.

Its taken a fair amount of punishment though i must admit.

Get a 25 box, its not a great effort to put it in, as aKTiVE said... go through 2 RB20 boxes and you'd done the cost of a 25'er

its not an os giken its an exedy extreme clutch matt..... taking that clutch out is not an option... it shat a brand new heavy duty organic after 5 runs on the dyno this clutch is the only one thats been able to hack the power in an off the shelf clutch....

ive advised matt to find anoter cheap rb20 box to get him rolling again and to start taking it a little easier on the 20 box till he can afford to have all the bits to do the 25 conversion in one hit rather than taking 2 months to get all the bits together while the car is off the road.... he has only had it for 2 weeks all up so far..... hes just gotta get over the "i have a new car that spins the wheels whenever i want it to SIK BRO!!!" period

haha

and yeah incase anyone is wondering yeah its my old 32 gtst :)

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
