size of front speakers (R33)

anyone know what diameter speakers bolt straight into r33 doors? I just bought some 6.5 inch mids to go in, then someone told me they are a bit too big.

i think they might be 5 1/4 inch speakers in the front thats what most cars run in the front

actually they must be bigger than 5 1/4 coz thats what i had in there before and they were too small, and had a backing plate to fit them in. Anyone know exact size??

Those plastic speaker holder thingies only hold 5 or 5 1/4" speakers.

I pulled mine out (the plastic things) and threw them in the bin and put in a set of 6's.

You need to make or buy a pair of wooden spacers though.

I got mine from JB Hi Fi for about 9 bucks.

This will make the speakers sit in the right spot (so your windows don't hit them) and make it sound heaps better.

how come i was able to put my 6 inch in the front in these same plastic speaker holders? the holes lined up and it fitted flucs no problems!

my windows dont have any problems either????

i think its somthing to do with acoustics and shit you dont see subs boxs made from plastic but thats about all i can say

you dont see spacers made from wood either!!! regarding speakers in the doors i dont think it really matters as long as they are in flush and arent loose

Everyone has a different opionion to what size the speakers are. The rear shelf speakers on a series 1 R33 are definately 6.5 inch (I actually installed them myself). I havent got round to installing the fronts yet but I would assume they're the same size (judging by the size of the hole). It'll take about 20 minutes to take the door panel off, measure the stockie speaker, put the panel back on, and go down to the nearest car audio place and get the size that fits.

One other thing, speakers in a series 1 might be different to series 2???

Geez, didn't take much!!

I dont know, but I reckon the fronts would be 6.5s.

I put 6s in the rear but they needed spacers. This was a ridicuolously annoying task! Wood is better for this because its stronger than plastic. The speakers wont transfer as much energy through the wood, which means they are more likely to convert the power delivered into actual sound rather than movement and rattles. Basically the stronger the mount/enclousure, the better the sound.
