Hi There,

I currently have a 96 R33 gts-t, it seems to have a bit of black oil in the pipes eg. the pipes that connect the intercooler...

From what I have been reading, people are talking about the turbo seals being stuffed, is this the case? I have never had any smoke out the back (always checking)... Is it a big job to fix?

I also had my car back from a service and the mechanic noticed that an exhaust stud was brocken (from what I understand it was on the headers side, if that makes sense). Can anyone explain what this means, the mechanic told me I should have it fixed soon and it is a big job.... (3 months ago..)

This leads me on to my next question, can anyone supply me with a company name/number (in Sydney) that would be able to fix these problems, and perhaps an estimated cost of what I would be looking at?

And one more question, would it be worth it while the turbo is out, to have it high flowed???

Thanks heaps for your advice.

Rob

The oil has possibly come from the rocker covers. Fitting an oil/air separator can solve this (have a search at www.autospeed.com, they have a couple of articles).

The exhaust studs break because of differential expansion in the manifold. You will probably have to remove the turbo and manifold to fix. So while the turbo is out, may as well have it modded. I had a T3/T4 hybrid built - about $1700 from memory (in Melb tho, probably dearer in Syd)

Hi again,

Just spoke with a mechanic and he seems to be telling me it's turbo seal's that have gone.

Is ther eany way of confirming which it is?

I have found a oil/air separator for $95.00 with everything but don't know if it's worth it now.

I have OIL coming out of my Blow-Off valve dude...

I talked to some experts at XSpeed and they seem to think it's the turbo seals/gasket. I'm taking mine back to the dealer as it's under warranty, to see what they have to say about it.

It's worth having it checked ASAP dude :(

My oil seals on the turbo have been going for ages now..

Finally I am starting to see some oil that is coming from the bov recirc.

When cold it blows a little puff or two as it comes on to boost as apparently it leaks a little in to the exhaust housing or somthing?!?!? Not sure but that is what i've been told by a few ppls.

Running 15-16psi all day every day for god at least 6months now with no problems YET.. one day it will go pop... Hopefully I replace it before then though..

Is there any easy way to actually tell if the turbo seals are faulty when purchasing a second hand say HKS GT2530?!?

    • I am well aware as I did rant at him to buy a MX5, buy the 2.5 before he DIY'ed it, etc as well as do things to the holden. He will obtain a ND. It's the best of both worlds. They look great in person, definitely the best looking one. Just a matter of time now.

    • ouch! how is the car now?I had sold my gtr but have been looking into some on trademe and a 260RS but I wouldnt be keen on any repairs needed on them
    • This sounds like someone who would have owned an R33 in their past... It's okay, I'm 100% picking up what you're putting down Mark.
    • Just back on what was raised about jacking off the the tow/tie down point on the front of cars. I've used it plenty. I've also watched it on a car where you could see it move the front end of the car. It was like the front end/whole car being tweaked and twisted a bit. I will say, I struggle to find good jacking points on MOST cars. The ones that have good points, I then normally struggle to find a jack tall enough to make the car change height!   One of my go to points for either the jack, or the axel stands though, is either a suspension pickup point, OR a subframe to chassis major bolting point. I actually think its the subframe on my R33 that has a bit of a bend in it, from being jacked in the middle too. However, it could have been one of my many other cars I've had over the years! Or it could also be the from me jacking it up, and the fact the top of the front radiator support isn't there, so it can allow the front of the car to move and bend etc.
