I have recently had my RB26 block sonic tested and I have been informed that the walls of the block are too thin. They recommend me purchase another standard block. However I have a RB30 block and I am interested in using this instead. I heard it’s a bit of a headache trying to put the RB26 head / RB30 block set up into a R32 GTR. Is this true? Can someone explain the necessary modifications involved in this set up. Thanks. Morgs Posted February 5, 2005 Share Posted February 5, 2005 Its a tough ask reading through all the pages of that prior post for the quick answers I've heard you need a custom sump and a few bits and pieces to get it fit. Your best bet it to get your rb26 block fully sleeved around $700 to get back to std bore size (ready to bolt new pistons in) and the sleeve material is twice as strong as the block material for the same wall thinkness . He said for me to re-sleeve it will cost about $130 a bore, so for 6 be $780. For that sort of price I might as well look for another standard block. Now this is what I can’t understand. Previously my block was bored out to fit 87.5mm pistons and I have access to 88mm pistons. He said if he bored to fit these pistons the wall will be too thin. But on many occasions I have seen HKS 88mm pistons on various GTR’s. One such example is Deans (Ultimate Performance Imports) R33 GTR. So why is my block an exception? I realize that all blocks are different but can this be done? DAN00H Posted February 7, 2005 Share Posted February 7, 2005 he may have discovered a thin spot, or air bubble in your block. did he x-ray it? what testing was done? you don't want to go too close to the water jacket - best to keep the thickness if you can.
