Tokyo - where to buy parts

Hi Guys,

Im going to Tokyo in a few days and thought id try and buy parts over there.

Any ideas where to go, prefer if they could handle a bit of english too..

Im pretty much only looking for ECU's, boost controllers and maybe suspension..just stuff thats easier to carry back..

I'll be around Shinjuku and Shibuya area...

Any ideas??

There is an Autobacs not too far from Shibuya in Daikanyama, the following link will open a page to the info for that store, you could try printing it (if you can) and having someone guide you there. Even giving the map to a taxi driver might work. Autobacs is not the best place, I would suggest Super Autobacs as they definitely have more stuff, but there isnt one near Shibuya or Shinjuku as far as I can remember.

Thanks for the advice...where is the best place to get parts in terms of price and accessibility within tokyo?

I plan to buy a 1 day JR pass which lets me travel all around any JR line for free all day long (please tell me this still exisits :D)....

I already thought about autobacs..but cudnt find any links on the net..Jap sites are too hard to search for...

I also tried to look up Autobacs Second hand market, and it appears to only exist @ Tokyo Bay which isn't too bad to get to

btw: that link didn't get me anywhere cudnt load the page...

Of the cheaper places on your side of tokyo you've got Howars (about 20 mins on the seibu shinjuku line, bit under 1 km from the station) or Border (a bit further out, bit more of a hike from the station). Running around Tokyo (but staying in the 23 wards) you've got Hirano to the north (about 20 mins walk/short bus from nishiarai station on the hibiya line) and in the east carshop nagano which is about 15 mins walk from aoto station (take the yamanote round to nippori and take the keisei line from there). These places on average will be about 20% cheaper than super autobacs

If omg is talking about Border racing in Ome, it is a F#$king hike from Shinjuku. and quite a decent taxi ride from Ome station. plus they don't have a whole lot of stock, and their parts are not that cheap. Nagano is good though.

True, border is a fair way out and we've only gone there when we've been going out to Jun.

soop - they are discount performance parts shops which sell just about anything and generally have a better range than super autobacs (for the performance stuff). Personally I'd recommend nagano, I get almost all my parts through them, they give a good service and have very good prices. If you're there for only a few days try to get out there first as if there's anything you need ordered it will give you time, then you can either pick the parts up on the way to the airport or they'll send them to the hotel you're staying at. If you send me a pm with your email I can send you a map.

nagano is closest to Aoto station. maybe spelt ayoto. I forget. OMG's advice is sound too. go to your parts shops on the first day so they can order the stuff you need (if its not in stock).

I've actually got a map from mapfan with everything written in english which is a bit easier for non japanese speaking people to follow, means you can walk (about 15 mins, it's a short stroll) from the station. Kato will give you a lift back to Aoto after you've finished shopping as well.

Hmm, actually, soop if you're going to be there in the next couple of weeks speak up and I can take you out there myself

Borders is like down the street from us, about 10-15 mins away, hehehe.

Anyways, as far as parts for cheap goes, best bet is the second hand stores which can be found anywhere in japan, UpGarage and Parts Off, to name some of them.

as far as Autobacs goes, its everywhere, its like Autozone for the US and i dont know what the australian version is. The Autobacs in Tokyo Bay is a site to see, its a Super Autobacs they have like starbucks coffee and stuff in there too.

If you are staying around Tokyo then this one is a good one to see. I heard (I haven't been there yet) that they have crap load of stuff. here is the website if you wanna check it out. http://www.hasegawa-net.com/index.html enjoy ur stay.

Hasegawa is the best of the secondhand places I've been to in tokyo, fair bit of stuff with decent prices sorta a bit similar to an australian wrecker, much cheaper than the "it's secondhand parts but we'll lay the shop out like it's new parts" upgarages. Excellant for turbos (especially big ones), good for brakes, fair bit of driveline stuff, lots of suspension bits (though the coilovers are almost all crap), fair few seats, exhausts etc, very very few electronic parts.

soop, if you can't find aoto station you're going to be in bother :D Follow the Toei Asakusa/oshiage line out to where it hits the keisei, thats aoto. 22nd is a bit late for me unfortunately, I'm only really free for the next couple of weeks

i think i might end up @ Super autobacs in tokyo bay hehe seems to be the easiest place..

It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo.       It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
