Hi All

We are using an "Importer" to import our Skyline, which we bought at Auction in Japan. We made payment for the vehicle three weeks ago ... yet, we have not been advised of any further details (ie. shipping, estimated arrival to Aust.) and when we ask, an answer has not been forthcoming.

Has anyone else had these problems?

We have recieved replies to our emails and telephone calls - but unless we make the contact first, we are not contacted. These replies are non-committal and they also advise us that the information we are seeking is not easily available to them.

Has anyone else experience this type of delay?

How long did your car take to be shipped from time of purchase?

At this time, we don't want to name names, as up until the purchase of our skyline, the service we received was acceptable. Though, if three weeks turns into four weeks ... watch out! :P

My car took about 2 months to get here from purchase, including compliance, and trucking from Brisbane to Canberra.

Do you know where the car is right now?

Maybe they're having trouble getting it on a ship...but if so, why can't they just tell you :confused:

I really don't know...maybe they've got some kind of communication breakdown with "their people" in Japan...but they should have a track of where their customers cars are at...i mean, either it's on a ship or it's not!

Don't know which state your in but this is how it works for WA

Once the vehicle has been bought from auction (and it depends which auction as well) the car is sent to the closest port that ships to W A.

We usually only get one ship or so a month( problem 1) and it leaves Japan on about the 28th and arrive around the 12/14th of the next month.Yes my GTR is due in 2 days.

The car has to be at the holding yard in Japan by about the 25th to get on the ship( problem 2).The broker will get the BL ( bill of lading ) from his Japan contact about 5/7 days before the ship is due in Perth( problem 3).

All going well , it gets offloaded, transported to compliancer and down the licensing centre in about 8/10 days after(problem 4).

Ask your broker if he has the BL yet , if not go back to problem 2 and work from there.

Your situation sounds very familiar to mine. I just got my car registered and on-road after a 5 month importing experience.

I imported thru J-Spec imports in Melbourne and found their pre-purchase service to be truly excellent. Their info and auction data and communication with me was top-class and I was very happy.

Then, after purchasing the car, there were numerous delays throughout every step of the process. Dereg and transport - Delayed. Shipping - very delayed. Customs clearance - Pretty quick. Compliance work - incredibly delayed. Compliance plates - ludicrously delayed.

I'd safely assume you wont suffer the same delays I did because the import scene has calmed down a bit after the changes in laws in May.

I finally got my compliance plate on last Thurday as well!! but ,my importer seems to have trouble doing the road worthy check and registration... reason such as fail to make an appointment.

Congrate Grim GTS-t, finally gott your car!! got any pictures? btw, how do you manage to do your roadworthy check and registration soo fast? Tell me your secret ;p

And to TheJackal, you got your car yet?

yeah i finally got the car....and finally got the compliance plates in the mail yesterday. BUT the car failed a road worthy yesterday :mad:

my importer put a new battery in my car, but put one that is too high and it wouldn't secure into the car so they wouldn't give me a road worthy. and now he wants me to buy a new battery and give him his battery back :eek:

hopefully it will all be fixed up in the next day or to and finally be on the road after 4 months or 16 weeks since I made payment.

My car took about 2 months from the date of purchase to being licensed last week. The longest delay was waiting for the car to be shipped over (3 weeks until it left Japan)... and waiting for the compliance plate to arrive from Canberra once the compliance work was completed (2 weeks). After reading other peoples experiences i consider myself lucky... you just have to be patient:) Now i just wanna go drive it:D

fat313, I know a few roadworthy workshops. As for the rego appointment, I called vicroads and they had a cancellation in just 2 hours. I had to rush to reattach the guages and dash, reconnect the factory BOV and get the car roadworthy. I JUST made it in time but it meant I had the car for the weekend.

When I rego'd it, the compliance plates had moved so quickly from printing to my car and to rego that the numbers on it hadn't even been entered into the national database yet. But the guys at the vicroads office were nice and said they'd register it for me and process the paperwork later!

Like I said, 4 months of delays then 1 final day of absolute mayhem!! As I cruise to work weaving between the traffic I know it was all worth it :P

Thejackal, that sucks about the battery. It sounds like it was a temporary fix that maybe Craig forgot about before sending you the car?

    • Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups. 
    • 75% complete. Will now need to get a new axle with 5x114.3 hubs and then figure out how to customize some mudguards for it once the wheels are on.
    • Trailer prep is underway... Lined up the wheel to get a rough indication of how it would sit Then removed all the bits (as far as possible) and gave the frame a light sand and quick lick of paint   Then added some carpet
    • okay, so I figured this out, removed needles and reinstalled after swapping the gauge face on my triple gauge for my ER34, all work and look good. I tried to do the same for the main cluster, but the main cluster gauge faces are dished, the replacement gauge face are flat, so due to the dish in the org face ,mounting backing plate (clear) and depth of the needle, the flat gauge face will not work. I notice that R34 gtr gauges are flat, appears to be different clear backing plate that aren't dished. are these available, or what have others done to install flat gauge faces?
    • Cheers mate. Seems some people get lucky others don't. It looks like the motor was detonating (to be expected if it was overboosting I suppose) as the pistons had a lot of detonation damage, and the bearings were stuffed. The bores were very scoured too, not sure if that's from the pistons or bits of ceramic turbo. By the by now. Have been trying to avoid the rabbit hole too much on the rebuild, and there's been a few hurdles along the way, but with any luck I'll have the car back soon™. Might even pop up a thread then.
