DOH! My apologies - I meant Sunday the 24th!

Anyway, went down at 9am and they were still going through the driver's briefs...er, driver briefing. :)

Had a bit of a wander around to check out the cars and only saw two 'lines (GT-R's). There was also a VERY nice little Lotus toy down there - one of only two in Australia (see link below).

After the mandatory safety speech, Norbert's (the organiser) rant about NOT doing any burnouts and the track walk-through, racing finally got underway at 10am.

As always, results were a mixed bag; a few drivers got in some very impressive times, while others squished lots of cones!

Must admit, the courses looked easy on paper, but when you're looking at one from a driver's perspective, all you see is a sea of orange cones! Well done to those that managed to get through the track as intended!

Exit, should have come and said hello . I was in the 32GTR.

Wasn't bad but I got frustraed for being told off about my spirited driving so left before the end

Haha! You go told off too ? Naughty, naughty! :D

I saw Norbert going off at that dude in the red/orange Torana for doing "burnouts" - I don't know what he was on about because the guy wasn't really doing anything wrong! (i.e. he wasn't doing deliberate 360's or anything) Why were you told off ?

Trouble was , he wants you to compete but don't leave marks on the bitumen

Ding ,WRONG !!

How can you drive aggressively and not ??

After the second test he chatted me about my sideways style and I didn't say much .

Anyway , after being told to take it easy BEFORE I started the last test, I said screw it. Drove around slowly then straight thru the garage and home. Won't see me back there again if you can't put on a show. And your right, no one was deliberately doing:burnout:

or anything stupid. It's just that Belmont Park is paranoid after the PAS debacle .

Ken

Yeah, I think he got a bit too carried away with this whole burnout thing. True, the guys at the PAS motorkhana did let it rip after they missed a turn or lost it, but hey - that's what people like to see!

Norbert having a go at you for your sideways style is a bit harsh though! Afterall, this ain't "Driving Miss Daisy" now, is it! :D

Yup, like a GoKart on steriods! :D

Ditto that for the Lotus Elise and the Westfields.

Yea but thats the trouble , no tail out , no smoke billowing off the tyres , no full oppo lock pedal to the carpet( hey this aint speedway , we got carpet ) . Just fast.

Any way , I followed MY motto

"" If ya can't be fast be flashy ""

LOL Ken

Ummmm, cars go fast, they have tyres, tyres leave black marks when driven hard, like in motorsport! :D

Don't worry Ken, I saw your driving and I was impressed yet again by your ability to hold a car in a controlled sideways slide! In my opinion, if you can't drive at 10/10ths, it is not worth doing!

And PAS wasn't so much a debarcle, sure some rubber was left down, but it's a car show!!! People don't want to see driving Miss Daisy! :shake:

Don't get me wrong about PAS , the guys driving were doing what they can but some of those postage stamp size courses must have been bloody frustrating. No wonder they cut sick when they could and it's what the crowd wants.

Another one of my quotes

"" There can only be one winner but everyone could be a crowd pleaser ""

LOL again Ken

Exactly - they should have used ALL of the carpark to set up one simple track, instead of 2 postage-sized ones. At least then we would have seen some action!

I went for a look and gtrken vs the Eames R33 GTR was the easily most entertaining to watch. Nice power slides Ken. A mate of mine mine video-ed your second run, do you want me to post a link when he gets it on his web site?

Those Westfields where damn fast around the track.

Yea that would be appreciated , thanks :D:)

Both myself and James ( eames ) thought that was damn good fun. Gotta put something better on than worn out 2 year old Jap rubber.

    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
