Did you say you could source HKS 2530's?

If you can't I'm after basically the same thing 'Jason' is:

How much horsepower/kilowatts do you want? 230rwkw

What are you using the car for? 90% Street

When do you want boost roughly? Full by 3500 if possible

Do you want power early or late in the rev range? A little lag is fine but must not drop off boost at all

What Mods you engine has or is going to have including computers or exhaust etc.? 3" turbo back exhaust, intake, FMIC, fuel pump, injectors, power fc or a tune, possibly cams

Obviously, what car? R31 with a RB20DET

Intercooled? Standard copy cooler 600x300x76

Still running AFM or upgraded or no longer there? Stock RB20 AFM, but would upgrade to Z32 if necessary

Custom exhaust manifold or standard? Standard

External wastegate or internal(limited to virtually 450hp)? Internal

I was thinking the GT28R, but I really have no clue. :P Maybe too small?

I was thinking the GT28R, but I really have no clue. :) Maybe too small?

You will need the Z32 AFM to achieve that power.

Yes the GT28R is too small.

There is not a lot that can be put onto the T3 flange unless it's HKS. I can't get HKS turbos but I can have lots of magical things done to Garrett turbos. I will talk to my guy tomorrow to find out what can be done with a GT30R to make it fit.

All prices have come down since I signed a new contract with a larger distributor so it should still be fairly cheap even with machine work.

Hi just wondering do you get other turbo's that weren't on that list? i'm in 2 minds at the moment do i got with 2 replacement turbos for my GTR or do i go all out on 1 big one do you get say HKS T51R SPL Ball Bearing Turbo? if so how much would one cost? thanks

I don't do HKS but I can find an equivalent turbo. It all depends on what you want your car for. Straight line....go the big single. Track work and fast response...go for upgraded twins. $2550 for a pair of 2860R's. That will need very little modification to fit (1/2 a hole on the exhaust dump) and you can achieve 700rwhp with the right backup mods. A big single like a T51 or even a T04Z will set you back $1900 and you will still have to outlay another $800 or so for the manifold to bolt it on plus change the exhaust right back to the cat plus change the inlet, run external gate.....all this would add up to around $3600. It is still cheaper and a far better setup to retain the pair.

Ok thanks for the info after racking my head i've decided to keep the twins in true GTR style those 2860R's would be similar to 25/30's wouldn't they could you please give me some more info on these turbo's thanks

These turbos are making 700rwhp with the correct supporting mods. They are not quite as big as the 25/30's but they come on boost much sooner and are only $1360 each. I have been told by my supplier that they have a slightly different T25 flange which is half a bolt hole out on one of the holes. He assures me that it is not a great deal of a problem. They have a very deceptive power curve in that they don't punch you in the back of the neck but will still pull hard from 3000 rpm. Better suited for track work in my opinion. If you want a 25/30 I will give you an updated price tomorrow.

Ok the GT2860R (400hp T25 flange) is still $1360

A GT28RS (380 hp T25 flange) is $1455

And I appologise but he has given me a price for the GT2535R instead of the GT2530R

Price for GT2535R (380 hp T25 flange) is $1720

All of these will do the job nicely but I have been recommended the GT2860R as BT & D centre have fitted them to two GTRs now and the customers are loving them. I also sold a set to a track GTR owner who needs super response.

Hey Dan

I was talking to you about turbos and fuel consumption last thursday and how my car sits on boost at 100+ km/hr and never got to ask if there is a compatiable turbo that wouldn't see boost till 3500rpm or so, I haven't got a clue if this is a good idea or not but am interested to hear your opinion.

Well , funny thing is my highway mileage is friggin awesome. I get around 750k's to a tank on the highway....but only 350-400 around town. I can drive along in 4th gear at 100 and still not be on boost lol.

for $2100 I can get your RB25 turbo grafted onto a GT30R front which will be a 500hp turbo on the stock manifold and dump. You will get full boost around 3500-3800 on that one. Only other setup costs are adapting to the 4 inch turbo mouth and oil and water lines ($100-$150 for both)

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.
