kralster
S15 with a RB26 in it yuck. Sure it would be fast but how would it go when it comes up to the first corner? It would be so nose heavy. ricsvtr
Does the S14/S15 have a ceramic turbo like the Skylines? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66988-s15s-please-give-some-opinions/page/2/#findComment-2819005 Share on other sites
nismoman
No. None of the S series silvia's (S13/14/15) have crappy ceramic turbos. They are steel wheeled and most will handle up to 1 bar of boost easily. The pick of any of the silvia turbos is the JDM spec S15 T28 Ball Bearing turbo. I have seen these turbos achieve 200rwk's with the right supporting mods. Here's a rough guide: S13 - T25G turbo (max power is approx 160rwkw) S14 - T28 bush bearing (max power is approx 190rwkw) S15 - T28 bush bearing ADM, ball bearing JDM. (max power approx 190 - 200rwkw) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66988-s15s-please-give-some-opinions/page/2/#findComment-2859337 Share on other sites
scathing
T28s will go up past 200rwkW. I've seen 210rwkW+ S15s with the appropriate bits. Tripin
Hi Guys, I'll add my thoughts as I'm the proud owner of a JDM S15 2000 model, which I've had for a year now. I got hooked on these as a result of seeing a few 180's etc drift around Eastern Creek. I like the styling much better than the Skyline's and the interior is more stylish. I'm a member of the Central Coast thread and all my mates have Skylines. I looked at getting an R33 and drove a few example of both cars. The JDM S15 has a GTR diff and has about 25% more power stock than an Australian car. (They also got climate control A/C, rear wiper and most have an a pillar boost gauge). As for comparison to an R33, they have a better power to weight ratio. Are more direct in the feel of the steering and handling (not as bulky) and are VERY PREDICTABLE, hence heaps of fun on the track. I had originally planned to drop in an RB26 but after having the car at Sandown have now decicded that the SR20 rocks! They are cheaper to run and insure and there are heaps of great SR20 mods available. Some say the 6 speeds aren't much chop, but I love it and haven't had any dramas with it. There is only one downside as far as I'm concerned and that is the back seat is a joke compared to a Skyline and it is not real comfortable for the average adult on anything more than a short trip. nismoman
Bit off topic, but don't let people put you off the Silvia series. the general feeling I get from lots of enthusiasts is, if you own a 200sx then you must love drift or are into drift. They don't see that the 200sx makes a great circuit car. I'm building mine for fast lap times. Also at Wakefield recently, a competition drift car was the fastest on the day beating many circuit set up cars. If you're referring to DriftDaz in the S14a, the last time we were out at Eastern Creek he outran V8 ex-racecars. nismoman
That's the car. Darren Mew's S14a. It's devistatingly quick!!! I only wish my S14a would do those lap times! I'll keep dreaming, some day.......hehehehe! Best time for me to date is only a 1:58.10 which would put me about 60th on that list! Far out there are some fast cars there. I see that 3 nissan silvia's made it in the top ten. Not bad! I keep telling everyone they make an awesom circuit car but no one ever believes me!! I have a trackday on the 24/2/07 at EC, so I'll have to see if I can improve on my times. scathing
Two. Andrew Handmer was driving Daz's S14a - he helps work on the car. Greg Boyle (aka Stretch) is the guy that runs Autosport Engineering in Kirrawee. He had an RB26DETT powered S13 for a while, but that engine got put into a GT-R later so I'm not sure what engine is was running to pull that 1:49. Black Betty
Don't believe Dyno figures for S15s - the reason they pull such figures with small mods is because they're run on the dyno in 4th, like 5 speed cars but really the 1:1 gear in an S15 is 5th. Its like running your 32 in 3rd for a power run, of course your gonna pull bigger figures. damn cheaters Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66988-s15s-please-give-some-opinions/page/2/#findComment-2883055 Share on other sites
32vspecII
the only car i would consider again after a gtr is the s15 with just full exhaust and boost my old one struggled for traction in 2nd (with 18x9s) and chopped hsvs with ease Edited February 5, 2007 by arkon Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66988-s15s-please-give-some-opinions/page/2/#findComment-2883066 Share on other sites
nismoman
But my S14a doesn't hit max boost and max power until 4th gear, so it would read less if I dyno ran it in 3rd gear. Plus I know that 3rd gear in my brother's R32 is closer to my 2nd gear. The gearing is really low in R32's.
