How did all of you guys get Shannons cover for ~$1,300?

I rang and got a quote from them a few weeks ago and they said $2992.08 :P

That's for:

~$23,000 Stagea,

1997 model,

Regular usage (Private),

Garaged nightly (in a locked garage),

Modified,

and that's with 65% NCB!!!

I've had one claim that I can recall, due to malicious damage being done to my car a few years back, and because I couldn't determine who had done the damage (even though cops were on the scene after it happened, and I provided a report, etc., and tried to chase it up), I had to pay the excess for the repair.

I'm 31, and they've given me Rating 1 (hence the 65%)...

I'm calling them back to confirm this...

I just got my renewal notice from Shannons for the Stagea (yes it has been a year, time flies). The price was $200 lower than last year, now $1150. So I figure there must not have been many Stagea claims and a few more Stageas insured.

;) cheers :)

In NZ I'm with AMI.

The car is insured for NZ$13,000 (price of car, as I'm paying it off).

Premiums are about NZ$600-NZ$700 a year.

Excess is NZ$250-NZ$500 depending if it is stolen, I crash or my wife crashes.

No excess on glass.

I'm over 25 and have a 60% NCB

You guys seem to pay a lot in Aussie.

1997 Stagea RS4 Series 1

Unique Cars - Rating 1 (28yrs old)

$1100/year

windscreen + rating 1 protection

Agreed value of $30,000

$750 excess on at fault claims

With a crap load of mods!

These guys were very helpful!

Month-old thread, I know, but damn ... I got a quote from Just Cars for $1700 (admittedly, I don't own a Stagea ... yet) and I'm 33 with 65% NCB, car is garages in a low risk suburb.

Might have to ring them and talk in person to get reasonable rates....

Ive had my rate from Shannons adjusted from $1040 for my 1997 'modified' Stagea, down to $940.

Reason is; got my bike insured thru them, and recently put my wifes car thru Shannons as well.

Rating 1 65%, 27yrs old, no prior claims (in past 5yrs) or traffic offences (in last 5yrs).

Brendan

I've just got 3 quotes, 26yr old, rating 1, clean history.

JCI - $1100

Shannons - $1500

Unique - $950

Can't believe there is such a difference, JCI is issured at $23K, where as the other two are $21K.

Might have to start bargaining now with them, as prefer shannons, but not at that price.

haha, im such a cheap ass

3 party, no fire or theft (it was 250 extra and they would any pay me out 3k max.)

Full comp, $2600 with JCI, no one else would do it.

Thats with mods too

BTW, 18 yo (got licence on my bday, april 29)(made the calls when i got the car 2 months ago), clean history (or lack there-of)

Ill get full comp next year, probably around the same time i get new turbine as i could see a parttern arise after a new turbo...sigh

Ahh, and the truth comes out :O

After my experience in the last 12 months, there is no way I'd ever _not_ have full comprehensive insurance

HHmm, Insurance - is it worth it? Only when you need it!! :O

Alex, when I was 19 I was paying $2200 per year for my '96 Kawasaki ZX7R Ninja full insurance. If I added up how much Ive paid for vehicle insurance, I reckon Id be shocked. :)

But then again, Ive paid out $9k on health insurance, and claimed back over $30k on knee surgeries (had my 7th last week).

Brendan

i found that with just cars.... it was a lot easier to get an online quote with 0 modifications..... worked out to be $940 or something for full comp, 27yo... rang them up... quoted the the reference number.. and then.. added on the mods, they will then say we can provide 4 legal mods before increasing the premium........ so $940 with 4 legal mods....

i found if i listed mods on the website.. the quote went higher.... lowering took the quote to $1040....

and $53 bucks to keep rating 1.. after a claim .. or something like that..

Just joined the forum, and looking through some posts.

People seem to be paying a lot for Insurance.

Shannons gave me a good deal (and pay by the month with no extra charge). I'm paying approx $160 per month to cover 01 Stagea RS4V Prime, 03 Nissan 350Z and 04 Honda CBR600RR all fully comp :) .

Just had my first major claim with Unique and could not be happier with the level of proffessionalism, the speed of which the claim was dealt with and the outcome. They actually treated me like a person and not just some number.

Any one after;

Agreed Value

Choice of Repairer (lifetime guarantee on those repairs)

Pay by the Month (at no extra charge)

Free Windscreen cover

Blanket cover for modifications

Professional driving course cover

21yo+ with a relatively clean driving record

PM me for a comprehensive quote :P

What did you have to claim?

About $10k worth of damage, had a bit of an off, but because everything is R34 GTR stuff underneath, and lots of stuff was bent, the cost of replacement bits is very high. I would rather not discuss anything else about it, just for personal reasons. I was not doing anything stupid or illegal either.

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
