My R33 is getting registered soon (after 5 very long months of waiting) - I would like to know any potential gotchyas that could prevent my car from passing.

Its got a couple of eye-candy mods like drilled pedals and a really stupid boost gauge setup (there is a plastic pipe running up from under the passenger dash to connect it up). Do these mods cause trouble when the car is over the pits? Anyone had trouble when registering the car and have some tips to make it go a little less painful?

Cheers,

Steve

unless the pedals are factory they might tell u to take them off? ive had problems with that b4..

the guages im sure someone else can fill u in on...

are all 4 rims and tyres the same? the sil wouldnt pass unless we changed that. also get permits if u have pod, BOV, strut brace, cooler and stuff.. thats always handy and best to get if it passes the first time :D

As far as I know, the car has to be 100% stock when it goes over the pits, and when it has been registered the workshop can get their stuff back & give back your mods. So the pedals should be switched over & the gauges removed (by the way the setup sounds, get it done again properly) & any other mods changed.

this is registering , not RAWS compliance . the car does not have to be %100 stock , only meet roadworthy requirements . Even then stuff gets through RAWS , my line had aftermarket suspension and got complience .

drilled pedals have to have grip , cant be a glossed or painted surface . %90 of the pedals on the market wont pass .

guage doesnt sound good . technically I think your not allowed one that has a vacume line running from the engine (mechanical) , it has to be a type with a sensor in the engine bay that sends to the guage (electrical) . but they dont pick that up much . most important thing is its location if its in a head impact area youll fail immedietly . that is usually on top of the dash or pillar guage . behind steering is ok as long as it doesnt block the cluster

make sure your rims and tires match your tire placard, i had all sorts of problems with my 34 when taking it over cause it has 350Z wheels on it but the tire placard said it should only have 17" rims and tires on it, so in the end i had to borrow a set of 17's to take it over as they wouldnt accept the 18" "Z" wheels, then the car was too low cause of the change in wheel size, aaarrrrggggghhhhh!! Make sure no part of the car is lower than 100mm, it was a pain but all good now.

Good luck!!!!

:D :D

The car isl awaiting compliance plates as well - I was under the impression that RAWS is concerned with mechanical mods - not stuff like boost guages/pedals so I wasnt really bothered about RAWS.

Crap - the boost guage is right in the middle of the dash. I'm going to be busy this weekend :hellpisd:

I have a strut brace at the front as well...

oh , you should have said compliancing , that is very different .

the car has to be returned to total stock , rims , exhaust , everything . theoretically . sometimes you get away with things . id find a set of stock pedals , or stock looking ones and remove the guage . less hassle than having to go back again .

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
