Just out of curiosity, is 380 kms with a tank(60Litres), bad?

mixed city and highway (decent) driving, no major mods.

Could it be better? if so.. how? and don't say, don't drive a skyline :)

That is almost 16L/100Kms for a 2.6L car :)

Im just not very happy with it, and wanted to see if you guys out there are in the same situation.

Cheers.

you say your talking about an r33 gtst with no major mods.

so how is it a 2.6L????

anyways, i get around 450l per tank, which i am pretty happy with, i end up with a 11L/100Km's average, but thats when i drive around changing before 2500rpm.

i do also give it a hit at least once each time i drive the car.

Hmmm...I was just about to put up a similar post Ricoh :)

I've been battling the whole fuel consumption thing for a while...like most of us. My set up is relatively mild: 3" front/dump, 3" HF Cat, 3" Kakimoto at the tail, Trust Pod.

Last weekend, I put in a new O2 sensor which seems to have helped a bit (There are many threads about this by the way). I was getting 350Ks max from a tank (Running on/off boost...it didn't matter) but so far I have got about 120kms from 1/4 tank (BP Ultimate)...do the math...hoping for 480ks a tank. This is an obvious improvement so I recommend fitting a new one (O2 sensors only last 40000Ks, when they go kaputt, the ECU runs rich by default). I fitted an EL Falcon O2 sensor which cost me $86 from Motor Traders (A hell of a lot cheaper than the $180 Nissan Genuine part). The only catch is that you will have to cut and re-wire it to fit the Nissan connection...No big deal, the colour of the wires are identical. I can give pics if you want them.

I also cleaned the AFM with some contact cleaner that you can buy from Dick Smith. I am using a Trust Airinx pod but I need to partition it to eliminate some of the hot air. This should help the efficiency a bit as well. NGK Platinums are also a good investment.

Always remember the obvious: Tire pressures/alignment, oil viscocities (Not kidding), fuel filter, type of fuel, injector cleaner.

At the moment, things are looking promising, even if I squirt her a little just to make my presence heard :)

By the way, I would never tell you to "Not drive a Skyline" :) I would rather pay an extra $20 a week on fuel than drive a tryhard OZ performance POS :)

Remember, she's quite a heavy, well built car so heavy fuel consumption is a trade off. Luckily we don't have to rev the Sky's tits of to get some performance out of them...it would be even worse then.

Pics would be good mate!, Ill give that a go and see if it works for me. Thanks

I had a once off distance of 650km to a tank.

I was driving on the space saver spare wheel for half of it (had a flat in sydney, drove to newcastle and back on it before I could get the tyre repaired).

So half was normal commuting, the other half was freeway driving at 80-90kph.

Cheers Terry M. and btw you wouldn't offend me by giving me more info since my knowledge level when it comes to all of this is very limited.....to say the least :D

Now, I have another issue that I havent even noticed before.... every week regardless of how much petrol a have left in the tank I fill it up again...now, the first 200 k's ,the petrol gauge doesn't move at all, then it starts moving down slowly past the full tank line and then...you can almost see it go down as you drive, it almost goes down 3 1/4 of a tank in 80 to 100 k's. weird. anyone with the same problem.? or anyone know why this could be happening?

Thanks guys!!

I have the same problem, the guage is all over the shop after 60Ks from filling up. I wouldn't be too concerned. I resist the temptation to look at the guage until I get home and I'm on my level driveway, then I get an accurate reading.

It seems to vary heaps depending on road level...stupid pedantic thing.

If I can help with anything mate, feel free to PM me...I've been around Sky's for a while now ;)

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
