Nice work on the decision...

Just a point I would like to make.

I am sooo sick of people looking at the specs of Jap cars and going, hmmm only 206kws....

You know they have a documentation limit of 280ps over there right? Ofcourse everyone does.

Thats why GTR's have 208kw* twin turbo supras 208kw* 300zx 208kw*. we all know this power figure is wrong, so why use it in a comparison?

I don't know for sure, but I reckon you would find the R34 GTT would not be as far behind a XR6T on a dyno as the figures mentioned would suggest.

Fair enuff...

Does anyone know what the XR6T's do come up with tho?

I wonder if they would be over 200kws...

I just doubt alot of Ozzie power figures... Have seen results for a VS V8 which should have 168kw at fly come up with under 130 at wheels after exhaust work. And wouldn't be surprised if the big power battle holden and ford have been having latley see their power figures a little optimistic... especially the way they actually drive on the road... they aren't as quick as you would expect...

A VS V8? Get with the times my friend. The car was probably used as a paddock basher....

If anything Ford actually under quote their power figures. Don't think that just because it's Australian delivered doesn't mean it can't punch out the numbers.

Take a look at www.fordxr6turbo.com and you'll see what I mena. 280rwkw is nothing and costs bugger all for these cars. No mucking around with bigger turbos, intercoolers, ECU's, cams blah blah blah $$$$.

I have just finished flashing my dad's XR6t with an 8psi map and let me tell you it pulls like a freight train. Might try the 10psi map with decent fuel in it very soon. All for $1200.

The R34 might look better but it certainly does not match the power of the XR6.

all well and good as long as it gets it to the ground

more interesting for me to see how it compares to a

more comparable larger capacity engine like VQ41DE

as in V36 Skyline GT

330ps @ 6000rpm and 40kg/m @ 4800rpm

add a turbo and compare that to the barra turbo bit

fairer i think

poor little 25DET

Enjoy blowing your engine with the 8psi or 10psi maps.

Injectors and fuel pump way out of capability at those levels. Valve springs and the aforementioned need to be replaced before you run that sort of boost on the XR6-T.

Although it is scary how much power difference the edit can make.

My point was the figures were low... similar aged vehicles and the Jap car held higher numbers than the good old tough Ozzie V8. I certanly wasn't suggesting a VS is new or some sort of bench mark.

Ofcourse I'm not saying XR6T's aren't awesome, I reckon they are the best Australian car ever. Jap cars still seem to do more with the engine size for fuel economy and price IMO.

We'll see what happens at Powercruise. The GTR will be there, stock as a rock. We'll see what the 14 years newer, more powerful, more expensive stock XR's can do. :aroused:

Some people are forgetting that the Japanese deliberately used smaller displacement engines with forced induction for reasons like weight and racing class restrictions.

It's all maths, of course the XR6T has more power potential than the Skyline engines, simple displacement + forced induction.

Yeah, the XR6T is a monster. My point was more about the original question of which car to get. I feel that the Australian cars don't do as much with their engines as they could.

eg. SR20DET makes about 180kw+ in the S15. twice the capacity you might hope for somewhere around twice the power in the XR6T, but only gets another 80kw's. Its more, just not as much more as I think it could be if Ford tried harder... I guess they didn't want it to over power the XR8...

LOL, yeah I'm certain Ford knows that forced induction beats NA and the power was deliberately kept conservative and below the V8 output. Lots of V8 bogans out there that would have hurt feelings if the XR6T came from the factory with more power than the V8.

Edit is quite safe.Valve springs on a XR6T vary but mines making 300rwkw on stock springs.Injectors seem to be good to about 240rwkw.

These cars had a few problems with build quility but thats mass production for you.

if you guys have any questions on the XR6T i will gladly answer them.

Cheers Darren

To answer any questions on performance times of the XR6T,Here they are.

14.5 to 14.0 Auto

14.3 to 13.8 Manual

They seem to make around 180rwkw to 200rwkw standard.

I had a R33 gtst with pod filter,Full exhaust and 10 psi boost and just got beat by a stock XR6T comming back from willowbank.

If alot of you guys are from the gold coast you will most probaly see me out then.

You wont miss my number plates FPV T6.

    • Started sifting thru my brakes to decide which ones I will run on Clem   Made me think I should just put them all on Silver...for when brake fade just isn't an option   Should be able to bump rotor up from 343x32 to 348x36 off Supra. Not sure if the Supra annulus is right for the Alcons or APs but trying g to find a used Supra\M4 rotor to test fit The Alcons seem to gain 1-2mm clearance which all helps
    • So car is getting a few mods to the cage and some jacking points welded in Meantime Ol Silver gets a new gearbox and shiny clutch.  Old Box is being set aside for Clem
    • Probably speedometer itself if the odometer is ticking. If the needle is stuck from a bit of grease or something that can cause it to stay at 0. Or a cracked solder joint in the speedometer can do it too.
    • Thanks Fella’s   to take this off topic and to elaborate a bit more. I have an rb25/30 going into a r32 GTST.. expected to make around 600-700hp. Would you?   A) R34 GTT box   B) CD00#?  I’ve seen a few posts about the CD swap and sounds fairly involved with making it fit etc but if it’s worth the work then I’ll go that way
    • Lower at the hubs. Funny I forgot to mention that part. Do this pull here I turned the camera off too soon but the graph shows a drop at the top and that was because the pipe from the turbo blew off. The tuner said we could’ve made possibly another 15 whp. He also added if I switched to ethanol we could up the boost some more as well. I was comfortable capping it at the most of 20 pounds. Turns out the turbo pipe just needed a new worm clamp. Got home replaced that then did a third gear pull from 3k to 7200 rpm and the power was great to the top. I just got an ecu mounting bracket from IEE that I need to try and get everything to fit well. It’s a PITA to get the harness and ecu fit properly behind that kick plate
