Hey everyone um i have a small problem when i hooked up the new stereo i lost all my parking lights in cluding my dash lights but still have brake lights and head lights i checked what i thought were the right fuses and they looked fine is there any reason the parking lights would be effected by the different stereo???

need help any reply would be greatly appreciated.

i posted this msg on the audio forum but had no replys i really need help with this thanks guys

wow, my brother did the exact same thing last week with hes S15, installed a stereo and lost all dash lighting, don't know if hes fixed it yet.  :headspin: ill ask him tonight.

oh yeah the car is a 93 R33 4door gts25t

i just pulled all the fuses and found one in the boot that tails lights but it effects all the parking lights. i replaced the blown fuse but it just blows as soon as i turn on the lights would changing the stereo effect this at all ?? its all i have changed electrically and i used all the original stereo wireing..

You must of shorted something out somewhere installing the stereo - hence why the fuse is blwoing its drawing too much current from that fuse... unplug the stereo replace the fuse and see if it blows - if it doesn't either the stereo is doing it, or your wiring :rofl:

well it is the stereo as soon as i unpluged it the lights worked now how do i fix it can i just put in a bigger fuse or will this burn out other area's in the wireing ??

Just a thought, but maybe your power wire for your stereo might be coming from the parker lights wiring. So to avoid this rewire a new line straight from the battery with a fuse. This might stop it.

would the parker lights be hooked up through the original stereo?? because i have used original stereo wireing which power wire are you talking about the the ingnition wire or the battery wire?

When i was messing around with my stereo (after i'd installed it) the fuse went, i lost my brake lights and my dash lights i think, ended up being a fuse, not sure how it happened, but its common. I wouldn't just replace it with a bigger fuse. Triple check your wiring.... or it could be the headunit.

Please don't do this. I've had an electrical fire (from other reasons) and it's damn scary. You don't want this as the fuse serves as the weakest link, so basically it blows before the wires melt. You uprate the fuse and your wires may melt/erupt in flames.

What you might want to do is wire it straight from the battery as someone suggested, just make sure you have a fuse there, when I get a car I usually run 2 wires straight away, one into the dash which is usually about 8ga (or a bit thinner) and a 4ga to the boot for the amps.

I use the one to the dash to power everything I put in there, like EBC, head unit, gauges or whatever. This way you know where the power is coming from, what the wire is rated at, and what fuse you have on it (I also have fuses on each component where practical).

What I might suggest you've done is grounded your head unit into the lights, which will mean the stereo will work till you put your lights on (by turning your lights on or stepping on the brake, depending on which circuit we're talkin about).

The other possibility is you may have plugged the positive into that circuit, which I think someone mentioned above - however if you used exactly the same power wire as the stock unit this is not it.

The running wires yourself is a good idea if you just want to get it working reliably (remember to use a fuse and tape up all the exposed wires in your dash individually first though).

If you're really keen in finding out what happened however it might be worth to get a test light, and pull the fuse out that blew. Then get all the wires you were working with and test each one for current one by one (remember to have the car in the same electrical state as when the fuse blew, if that means it was in ignition with the brake pedal on then do that).

Note which ones were live and which weren't. Then put the fuse back in and do the same.

You should be left with one wire that behaves differently than the first time (ie either being on or off).

This should give you a better understanding of what the wire does eg. if it lights up when your car ignition is on or off and when your brake pedal is in, then it's obviously the brake light. If you've grounded it into that then you know why it's blowing. Process of elimination :rofl:

Cheers guys all the feedback was very helpfull i figered out what i did and i earthed the stereo to the illumination wire for the original stereo (wich had no power running to it when i tested it ....until i turned on the headlights) anyway have sorted it out now thanks to everyone who helped me out cheers boys..

I have the same problem with no dash lights or tail lights as i earthed the stereo to the illumination wire. The fuse blew but i can't fix it as it keeps blowing even with the stereo out. I think i may have melted a wire somewhere and it is goin to ground? N E ideas?

Sounds like you melted something all ican suggest is follow the sterio illum wire throught the maze but it looks like a full dash pullout might be in order to do that if you can test the illum wire for connectivity from fuse box you could allways disconnect it from illum harness and see if that fixes it. but its sounds like a real mess up and an autoelec job to me.

I did the same with my s13 silvia - and then 4 years later with my r33.

I bet I know what it is.

When you check for power wires for your new stereo with a multimeter there will be a negative and a positive.

Great.

But when you turn on the headlights the negative will turn into a positive.

Bang. There goes your fuse.

I'm pretty silly as I have fallen for this twice.

Earth your negative instead - I earthed mine onto the Cover for the g/box near the shifter.

As for putting bigger fuses in DO NOT DO THIS unless you want a fire.

Nissan did a bloody great job with their wiring so please don't wreck it.

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
