For those who don't know, Nissport is a workshop in Braeside/Mordialloc.

Anyhow, my clutch died so I called a few places...

I got the usual bunch of ppl who gould not be fuxored explaining, or recomending a type of clutch for my car/driving habbits, and those who just wanted to sell me some crap they most likely made the biggest margin from.

Spencer at Nissport was more than happy to spend 15 mins on the phone asking me lots of questions about my driving habbits, cars modifications and power output so that he could then give ne a few recomendations as to which clutches would be most suited for me.

anyhow in the end i went for a full faced carbon composite organic clutch with an 850kg pressure plate. The clutch is much lighter than the stock clutch that was in there before and has heaps more bite than the standard clutch, even when it was new.

I was worried a little at first, but he assured me that the light pedal feel is attributed to the installation. He also found my spigot bush was a bit rooted and replaced that at no extra charge. He also explained how that wasn't installed properly last time either.

I asked him to take care with my car b/c it has recently had a full respray and he did.

He also gave me a follow up call the next day to see if I was happy, and to once again re-assure me that the light pedal feel should not reflect the bite of the clutch.

Overall I rate his customer service 10/10.

As for the clutch it is still in the "running in" period, so I will give a better review in a week or too.

So any1 else out there like I was, that doesn't know what to get, how much it should cost, etc, give spencer a call at Nissport and he will happily try to determine what you need, and more importantly, explain WHY....

Hey Inark,

$800 installed.

I could have gotten it done cheaper elsewhere, but I did that 3 years ago, and I didn't want to do it again.

Last time spigot bush was not installed properly and made a rattle/whistle noise when clutch was engaged CONSTANTLY for 3 years.

The adjustment was so bad, the clutch was hard (and it was a stocker), and the friction point was only millimeters from the floor....

This time I just wanted it done right, and I would have gladly paid a little extra.

But, the thing it, labour was $200 this time. The last time I got it done, labour was $250....

Clutch was $550, and $50 for machine and surface grind of flywheel. Some places only machine flywheel, not surface grind.

yeah I guess most things...

He was telling me a bout a brake upgrade with brembo slotted rotors, and ***** pads (I wasn't paying too much attention b/c I thought I saw a scratch on my car)...

They had a 300ZX with the engine ou so they could upgrade the turbo's

I asked about dyno tuning and I was told they hire dyno time on the wolf research dyno...

I dunno how good they are with other stuff, I'm just saying he was honest, customer service was very good, and they were very reasonable priced. These are qualities I like, search for and think should be rewarded, hence this post.

I guess if you want something else done you should suss them out yourself, sorry I cant help...

they specialises in 300zx's

and i think from memory that they used to import skylines under the old regulations so know their way around a skyline

my mate with an NA 300zx goes there and is generally happy with their service

spencer sounds like good bloke, but loves the sound of his own voice, and is great at making you buy more than you actually need...

joe (the mechanic) is a great guy too and knows his shit...

cheers,

Warren.

Hey Warren, you hit the nail right on the head mate.

Spencer did try to sell me brakes that I dont need, but that doesn't upset me, b/c that's just business! He was very helpful, and did take the time to eplain a fair few things for me...

When I told him I was going to replace my swaybars, he asked what bushes I was going to use and if I had any rubber grease. I told him i was on my way to bursons to get some, and he gave me a small sachet and then spent another few minutes telling me how I should do it.

Now that may not sound like much of a big deal, but he didn't have to do it, and I appreciate the time he spent helping me. It's the small aspects of customer service that are missing from many workshops I've been to that makes me go elsewhere sometimes.

(BTW, I dont think you are bagging him, and I am not defending him, just sharing my thoughts)

cheers

How far off the flois friction point?

Next time you talk to him ask him the question can ya?

I have always wondered when I sat in new cars with that have a bit of balls out of the factory and had a play with the clutch and gearstick and they are always feather light compared to my clutch.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
