South Australian Vehicle ID Plates - back to regency!

I recently received a letter from regency stating that they need to fit a south australian vehicle ID plate to my car.

Apparantly they are currently trying desperately to source these plates. When they do i will have to make a time with them to bring the vehicle in so that they can fit a sa ID plate - free of charge.

Now my R32 was complied about 2 months ago.

Since i've have put the lowered springs and sports steering wheel back in and also tinted the windows beyond legal.

Now i'm going to have to take it back in so they can fit a plate.

Has anyone else received one of these letters??

If i take it in for the plate fitting can they inspect the car and defect it?

This is really pssing me off.

Could you advise them that you are working at a mine, or somewhere way up north, and make a request someone else fit the plate bue to the inconvinience of returning to Adelaide? It may be easier to drive to Pt Agusta (not a bad drive) just to have it fitted.

yeh i got the same letter and so did a mate. we could go sumwhere else, but it still means that someone with a lil bit of knowlage is gonna look at the car and as far as i know they can all read the letter which states that everything must be stock (said over 2 pages of ADR's). which means the vehicle would not be legal so the compliance/ID plate would not get fitted. its f**ked. its like getting the vehicle complied all over again

It really is bullshit.

To add to my problem, I had a compliance workshop put the car through for me the first time. The guy at the workshop knew the regency people and put it through with the current wheels which are too wide. It was late on a friday so they just let him though.

If i put the damn thing through they will get me on wheels as well.

I think i'll just get my girlfriend to put it though - they may be lenient???

Also i don't know if they will do a full inspection since they aren't getting paid for it. It says u just have to bring the car in for fitting of the plate. Probably dreaming though - I'm sure they would love to defect another car.

i did the compliance myself so luckily i can get hold of stock parts, but ther is alot of time going to waist if i have to do that. im thinkin make it look stockish (take off obvious mods like pod filter maybe FMIC and see how i go (if they ever get around to doing the ID plates). if i get a defect then ill take it to a place that does compliancing and get them to return it to stock take it through and return it to my beast.

i cant see why someone that does compliancing couldnt do defects. its pritty much the same thing, just not the introusion bars. also there are less imports now so they need to make their money sumhow.

ill try to take mine to Murray Bridge where i got mine complied (i have my reasons that i will not post cuz i dont know who might be reading this) also i live near Barker, bout the same distance to murryB as it is to regency.

I am missing something here, my car was compied in QLD when it came into OZ, it was run through regency to get SA Rego, I havent got a letter and I hope I dont, this sound like a crock of shit to me, there is no way I am taking it back to regency to get an SA plate of aproval, what a waste of my time and money, I dont understand what the plate is for??? can someone explain.

The law does not allow Transport SA to issue Exemptions from the requirement for vehicles to be fitted with an identification plate, but requires vehicles such as the one identified above to be fitted with a South Australian Vehicle Identification Plate.

Transport SA is currently urgently sourcing suitable plates and we regret any inconvenience this may cause you. In the near future you will be required to present the vehicle to Vehicle Standards staff at Transport SA, Regency Park for fitment of a South Australian Vehicle Identification Plate. Other arrangements may be made for vehicles not located in the metropolitan area.

You will be contacted by letter at a later date to arrange a mutually agreed time for fitment of the South Australian Vehicle Id Plate. No futher inspection or administration fee will apply.

Please note that failure to present the vehicle within the agreed period may affect continuity of the vehicle's registration.

NOTE: This letter must be carried in the vehicle at all times until such time as a South Australian Vehicle Id Plate is fitted.

Not too sure what the deal with all of this is about and why you have to go back ther for these plates, seems to be a stupid situation, maybe try and organize the Darlington place(next to cop shop) to attach the plates, pretty sure they are a little better when it comes to checking cars, especially if it's just a rego swap and not a defect!!

yeh mate i got this exact same letter in regards to my 15yo import 300zx, this was like 2 months ago tho.

Does anyone know if this is for 15yo imports only or have other people with imports under SEVS been sent this letter too?

well at least it doesn't sound like they will inspect it. As long as there isn't anything obviously illegal about it you should be fine, fingers crossed. Go late on a friday arvo or something

you take it there they defect and don't give you the plate

means13 when did you comply your dr30? Was it this year, cos everyone that complied their car in the last few months seems to be getting these letter?

the problem with waiting is more modifying. i dont want to put on FMIC and shit like that untill after this ID plate thing, but how long am i gonna hafta wait.

As far as I know they may never even get back to you, I've had my car complied for about 2 years now and I haven't had to take it back yet. I did get that letter though, and it says you must keep it in the vehicle at all times.

A guy at my work has had his car complied for about 3 years now, he also got the letter and hasn't heard anything since. I think it's to scare you from doing anything to your car. I know I'll be screwed though if I have to go back, as soon as they open the bonnet and see a RB25neo they'll probably just laugh at me.

Yeah im in the same boat, i bought my car off of a bloke who complied it, and i have had that letter in my glovebox since i bought the car, no word of going back yet...I bloody well hope not otherwise i may as get the vaseoline out now.....
