Yeah, thanks pitchd, my bar is the same type as yours.

I'm trying to avoid that cut up look as it gets too much of the wrong type of attention.

I'm going to at least have to cut out the under side of the bar and reo as the hybrid cooler is hard up against it so almost no air can get to the top half of the cooler.

I've got some N1 ducts coming and I thought I might also cut out the numberplate recess.

While the bar is off I also want to do something to improve the intake to the stock airbox.

K&N pod got defected on friday night. It has only been on the car for a couple of weeks.

They tried to defect the type S BOV too. Coppa didn't believe it was plumb back. He said to rev the motor and back off to see if he could hear it.

I think the stock airbox is not a bad thing but that asthmatic chamber under the headlight is a joke.

What has been done to replace it?

Anyone else got pics of their bar mods?

There is a post in the tutorial section on how to plumb up a nice CAI into the stock airbox for R32, i recomend going to take a look.

And if you dont chop the whole bar like above then yeah, n1 bar slots etc is prolly the best way about. JMS also sell a really long front bar slot, looks like 3 N1's in a row. Unless you pic up a gtr style......GTR's had the FMIC from the factory so chances are nissan dicided to give it decent flow propertys :)

Thanks geordie. The stock bar with mods will have to do for now.

I saw that CAI thread but was wondering if there was something better to use than a couple of radiator hoses.

Does anyone know if the GTR intake duct or airbox and duct would fit the GTSt?

Maybe I could use the rear AFM position and block off the front one.

Does anyone have pics of GTR airbox and duct on or off the car?

if cars could be disabled, thats what they would look like.

:)

glad you changing it

I didn't think it looked that bad,

I've got the same issue, my cooler is half hidden as present, gets no attention from the police though.

I was going to do that cut out on my gtst, however now feel paraniod. :D

Any nice aftermarket bars that are not too over the top??

Anyone know what a gtr bar is worth?

I'd just chop your stock one and see how it looks, after that spend the money on a new front bar that has more room, then again thats probably another $1000 there getting one and getting it painted (can think of better things to spend that money on).

Thing is people go for the largest, fattest intercooler that they can find, which makes mounting it a bitch. Fact is you don't need anything near that large unless going over 400hp or so. Or they get a massive intercooler, and then half of it is covered up by the bar anyhow

I bought the hybrid 600x300 ic because it was the cheapest I could find that was available at the time and also because it was a perfect fit. It almost mounted itself.

I didn't need cut anything except the bar cover to fit it but I'll cut the bar support for more airflow to the topof the ic.

I think it is better to make sure all the tubes get some air than it is to get maximum possible air to some tubes and none to others.

I mean if your tubes run horizontal it would cool better if say you blocked off air to the right half of the ic rather than if you blocked off airflow to the top half because then only half your tubes would be able to cool the air passing through them.

If your ic is larger than you need then only part of each tube might need airflow to do the job adequately.

GTR90 Your old car looks good.

That numberplate recess cutout was exactly what I had in mind but does say look at my fmic.

Hey I suppose I could get it engineered but once the cops pull you over to check the papers they'll try to do you for something else.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
