yeah mate I agree with what you say, but the fact remains that almost every person I know (that's been through Regency) has been knocked back for coilovers. And yes, some older cars have been knocked back for saggy springs and had to go get new ones too.

Like Matt said, it just depends who you get on the day, and with some if you dared ask them a question as to why something wasn't allowed or, god forbid, complained, they would look twice as hard over your car.

90% of the time i am nice to the inspector they will be nice back but like its been said, just depends on the day.

PS. can you go through regency for us and prove that what you are preaching is true?

HSV GTS was available (since VY I think) with Ohlins adjustable coil over suspension - an Australian produced car.

HOWEVER, I'm sure they had to make it comply with the relevant ADRs, and I think this is the issue rather than the fact it is a coil over or adjustable.

Any component that is fitted to a vehicle that has not been proven to comply with ADRs, they can force you to remove, or to prove it does comply. The latter is not a cheap exercise by any means.

I'm guessing the manufacturers of aftermarket Japanese performance products have no interest in gaining compliance with our design regulations, as the cars they make them for were never to be sold here. Sure, some of them may comply - but who's going to pay to prove it?

chops has it in one. IF we put something on our cars that does not meet or comply with our ADR's they have all right to defect us. No matter if the after market parts are betr than the originals or not. in the event of an accident the insurance company can deny the claim if you have non ADR compliant parts on the car

That could well be the case,but not all of us run shitty japenese suspension,and why wouldnt you question an inspector at regency?I would want to know if he knows what he's talking about and an answer so the problem could be resolved!

Kym, you really need to read the Regency thread started by Joel - you simply would not believe some of the shit said and done by the Regency inspectors. Catch any one of them in a bad mood and you might as well take a big jar of vaseline - no matter what car you have or how legal it is.

Firstly how and why is Japanese suspension shitty?

Secondly from what you are saying and they way you are coming accross it seems as if your regency experience is not exactly the best.

I think you should take it from the people that have been "in the field" so to speak, instead of "a friend of a friend" or "i heard".

How many time have you actually been through regency if you don't mind me asking?

And finally why WOULD you question an inspector, as far as they are concerned they hold the power to put you back on the road or not, if someone was tryin to tell me how to do my job i would reem them too.

well i just got my car passed by the cops and booked into regency 4 weeks from today. So i'm allowed to drive it til the appointment with no restrictions what so ever which my mates told me i would have! Dad's offered to take it in for me cause i made him read the regency experiences thread on this forum and he felt sorry for me.

mum's working but dad said he will make sure he can take it in for me, just a couple of things left to fix now, thanks for the engine stand and the ride Joel, was much appreciated and made me miss the VL for that low down torque, can't wait to get the motor all don and running!

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
