23 with no claims or convictions and driving since 2000.

For yearly insurance on an auto 98 r34 GTT  coupe at $25k

HBF:  $1250 with $300 excess. Unlimited windscreens a hire car etc and no restrictions on parking or anything

Just Cars: $975 with  $600 excess ($300 basic + $300 22-25 year old)

Think just cars might also have an extra $400 excess but the emails at home and can't remember what it's for.

hmm tough choice.

edit: no convictions not multiple ones

edit2: the extra $400 excess is actually $700 and i's for some endorsement

sounds similar like my situation, but i've got higher premium for r33, mayb its the NCB wats yours by the way?

and endorsement is for mods done to the car, from ur alarm system and EL gauge to other engine mods.

cheers

lets see was paying $840 a year for the skyline 55% ncb (rac) with mods was 27 when it was pinched had the car since i was 22. highest premium was $1100 had full nbc for the entire period. so over 5 years the price dropped $260 nothing huge. Asked when the cheaper price for age kicked was told its been moved to 27 now and could become 30 soon.

now on the 96 civic for 13k cover consindering i have recent at fault claim (yes the insurance companies give you an at fault claim when ppl break into your house steal ur car keys and take the car. why cause the car was never recovered they have no one else chace for the money.) and that I put Kylie on the policy as the youngest driver at 21 I got prices from 1200 to 450 a year ended up at police and nurses for $450 with half no claim bonus and a 10% policu increase because i had a claim in the last 3 months. Next renewl will see that 10% gone and a higher NCB

Ok guys I work for an insurance broker in Perth. And I can pretty much tell you, when it comes to imports and modified cars you get what you pay for. Go for a cheap policy, and the wording is full of holes, not giving you the cover you need for such a car. I am 20 and have an R32 GTR, 1 accident, no claims, couple of minor speeding fines, and my insurance based on $25,000 agreed value was $3,460 with Just Car, and the excesses were through the roof, or $3,800 with Shannon's and only $1,100 excess.

RAC and HBF are fine for the little bomb that you don't really care about, but their claims services are NOT good nor are their policies. Obviously I can't afford to go comprehensive, so i'm going to go third party only. Another point worth noting is that on third party fire & theft policies, there is a value limit of $5,000. Remember that shannon's is for car enthusiasts, and yes they do ask you about this ie: competitions, licenses, training etc. Personally i'd rather pay a little bit higher premium, knowing that I am with a stable and well established company, that covers everything I want and has a great claims service. Like Shannon's.

Another one worth trying is Famous, you can call them on (08) 9388 8733 They do comprehensive cover only. And they told me for my car it would be no more than $3,000 premium. Can also try Dawes on 1800 807 463, Unique on (03) 9898 9400 or Vigil on 1300 134 054

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :D

well actually we claimed through RAC and they were very good. we had problems with the panel beater doing a shocking job, RAC took the car and said they would take it back to the panel beater and we wouldnt see it again until it was done properly. they had the entire front end redone for us and apologised profusely.

my car was written off by a guy who was insured with RAC and i didnt have full comp many moons ago. they undervalued my car initially but i pled a reasonable case to them with ads from the paper etc and they accepted and paid me $9000 instead of $7500.

also with just car they have changed their pricing. they no longer work out NCB from years of claim free insurance, but just years of claim free driving. this saved me $700 this year as my insurance was under my parents name.

I personally have claimed through Shannons, my R33 was hit and written off. I had the claim sorted and received my cheque within 10 days of the accident and bought a new acr days after that.

You wont realise how good your insurance company is until you claim through them.

Another thing with companies such as RAC, is if you are involved in an accident which you are not at fault (ie, someone ran into the back of you), RAC will take away some of your no claim bonus, until they have recovered all money from the third party. Which ofcourse can and will effect your renewal premium, if the third party has not paid up every cent prior to the date your renewal is processed.

If you have a 60% no claim bonus, it really is worth getting NCB protection. This allows you one at fault claim per year without losing any of your NCB. Very handy for incidents such as when someone damages your car in a carpark, and drives off leaving no details. Because the insurance company have no one to recover off, you are at fault.

Again, it is 100% your choice, and you have to assess your priorities and what is appropriate for you. For some of us, saving money is on the top of the list. Just make sure you read the booklet (aka policy wording) you get with your renewal some time, and make sure it is what you really want. And if you don't understand something, then ask someone experienced in the industry.

WIth Shannons Insurance, if you are not at fault and can I dentify the 3rd party, your NCB will not be affected nor will you have to pay an excess. We also offer a Protected NCB which, regardless of how many claims you make, your NCB will not be affected.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
