Hi all, Just looking for some feedback/advice for a good manifold to use with a Garrett GT30 BB Turbo with external Wastegate. I was after a good HKS cast one that seperates wastegate+exhaust gases , but missed out - someone beat me to it.

I was thinking of a good quality low mount stainless steel manifold, but they are hard to find. I spoke to Sydneykid & R31Nismoid about this already. So can anyone give me any good ideas?

I am only going to (if this is ok) run very minimal boost (7-9psi) for 2000km with PowerFC, GT30, Wastegate, Nismo injectors, Z32AFM, oil cooler (only after the initial 500km with std turbo, SAFC, Walbro fuel pump & Monza Rising rate Fuel reg.

Because I'm running my engine in, so basicallly would it be ok to use the standard manifold for 2000kms using the Garrett GT30 (500hp), Wastegate, PowerFC, Nismo 550cc injectors, Z32AFM, Blitz Dual SOL. EBC (older style) & have boost right down + be soft on the pedal? or just wait to I find a suitable manifold after it's run 2000km - then tune everything?

It would be great to hear about what your experieneces are with different manifolds for this turbo.

first thing would be that you couldn't use the std manifold with the external gate unless you make a spacer between the manifold and the turbo flange. thus it be a close fit for a gt30 to sit low mounted with a spacer plate in place. wouldn't it be easier to run your engine in with the std turbo etc, then get a manifold and dump pipes built specifically for your setup?

you mentioned using the std turbo for 500km, just use this to the full 2000km then have the setup finished with everything and tune it up then. sounds like a lot of double up work to get the end result.

Thanks Chris (Craved), Yeah I guess that is the better option - std turbo, SAFC, etc.. for 2000km's. - then tune everything else with PowerFC.

I might as well have the manifold made up with the dump/front pipe. I was trying to get away with buying a existing manifold + dump/front pipe.

I'm pretty new to engine mods. I was also looking for at those dump/front pipes in 1, but it might be safer just to get a split made up to suit my set up.

Why are you using a SAFC and a PowerFC?

Sorry about the confusion, I bought the SAFC before my PowerFC, (Nengun Prices changed my mind) and will only be using the SAFC for the run in (until I have all the other gear on), I didn't want to fork out $$$ for extra Dyno tunes with the PowerFC. Once finished with SAFC -

(500 -2000km's I'll put it up for sale.

With your engine management sorted I would throw the rising rate regulator a long long way away . The correct way to controll fuel pressure is to keep it in sync with manifold pressure and use an adequate fuel pump .

You could always look for another cast HKS manifold as there is a few kicking around . I would use cast ones in preference to fabricated ones as they seem to be more durable .

Thanks discopotato03, I was going to get rid of the regulator, once I have the GT30, wastegate, dump/front pipes, injectors, PowerFC & Z32 AFM installed. I'm also seriously thinking of selling my Blitz Dual Sol. EBC (older style - not sure on model) & replacing it with the PowerFC Boost control set-up.

I will most likely get rid of my Walbro pump & get a Bosch 044 or 040 - Then get a decent oil cooler aswell. There is still a chance for me to get the original HKS cast manifold I was looking at - other sale didn't go ahead.

Not necessarily for Chris, I have already PM'd him, but for others. I never run an engine in for 2,000 k's. A solid 500 ks' and it's done, that's it, get up it. let 'er rip. It is as run in as it is going to get.

I use 100% mineral oil, change the oil filter after 20 minutes of running. I then do the 500k's in one hit, drive to Bathurst and back, one morning, up and down the mountains, lots of differing loads, no constant speed running. Change the oil (to synthetic) and the filter again. Stick it on the dyno in the afternoon and give it the final tune.

Driving it around in trafiic, pusssy footing around for ~2 months achieves nothing but frustration for you. Get it done in a day and get on with your life.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you  
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'  
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
