Hi Guys,

Just going through the posts in the forums about the Trust/Greddy TD-06 series turbos and just have a few little questions as I am planning on getting one.

I have a SII R33 Skyline with a 3" turbo back exhaust, FMIC and will be getting a PowerFC soon.

From what I've read, these turbo are bolt onto the standard manifold and can have both internal and external wastegates. Am I correct?

Also, I read a post in one of the threads that said that the TD-06's were not water cooled thus you would have to have the water lines blocked. If I am correct, is it just as simple and blocking the water lines or is there more to it?

Also, for you guys that have one on, what times and power output are you getting from your turbo.

Lastly was it as easy as bolt-in? Did any other component in the car have to be replaced as I suspect this turbo would be larger?

I want to have as least as possible labour time to reduce costs, thus I sort of directing towards the TD-06 turbos with internal wastegates but if i get enough help I may stray toward the external wastegated ones. Could go GT30 if external wastegate is recommended.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Steve

with external gate, you need a custom manifold, it will not bolt onto the stock manifold as you have to bolt the wastegate onto the manifold aswell. If you find a td-06 with external gate, then you will have to add about $1000 for the manifold and about $300-$500 for the gate

Hi,

I just want the car for street and want it to go decently on the drag strip as well. Money should be adequate but I wouldnt mind the less the better.

EVL_R33, would you know if the internal gated TD-06 will bolt onto the standard manifold?

thanks again guys

Scooby_Steve, yes an Internal gate td-06 will bolt onto a standard manifold. If you going to buy one you should look at getting a td06-20g with a 10cm exhuast housing (8cm suits sr20/ca18 better, 10 or 12cm i would say is the best for rb25 with min lag)

if you interested in buying an internal gate one there is one for sale in the forsale section i think the dude is asking $1500,

Im not too sure but i belived that you will need an aftermarket dump with the turbo.

ohh yeah and ext gate, is pure wank factor; and cost a far abit more

Please read the following threads for some more info on internal vs external so you understand the differences and have some more information to make a desision:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...11&page=1&pp=40

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...18&page=1&pp=40

Also do some search on the following parts for the RB25 as you'll need to upgrade them

Fuel Pump (gtr should be ok)

Clutch (upgraded plate or twin plate or stronger single plate)

Injectors (550cc or higher)

Airflow Meter (z32 airflow meter)

If you are looking for new turbochargers then check out nengun.com and login and add your car and it will highlight items suited to RB25 series 2. These should bolt upto stock flange, dump, exhaust etc. The HKS GT-RS kit is a well suited turbo for mild RB25. Plently of threads covering its power and recommended config for it. Suited for 260rwkw

I have a TD06-20G with external wastegate. This turbo makes good power on my engine which has bigger injectors, fmic, forger pistons etc. At 14.2psi in made 269.6rwkw. I have only raced a 1 drag meet and my best time was 12.4@117mph.

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for your input.. I've just about made my decision on the turbo I'm going to buy.. But one last question.. Does the TD-06 20G require water lines? Just that I remembering reading somewhere that it didnt. any help on that would be great. thanks.

No mine doesnt. Have heard they make good power at 15+ psi.

Yes, just block them off.

With a turbo that doesnt use water cooling, it is a good idea to fit an oil cooler, especially if you intend to do any extended track type thrashing.

If the budget doesnt stretch, make sure you fit an oil temp guage, and ensure the oil temps are down before you switch off.

Normal things that should be done with any turbo car, but if you upgrade to oil cooled turbo, it is more important that you are mindful of warm up, cool down and oil temps.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
