i have just changed to splitfire coils, and it is still recommended to keep the plug gap to 0.7 or 0.8mm. On the street it ran fine at larger gaps (i tried up to 1mm) but on the dyno it missed badly up top of the rev range.

as a point of interest, with plug gaps at 0.7mm, i gained roughly 3rwkw on the same dyno in the same conditions since changing the coils to splitfire, nothing else changed. Its probably insignificant, as i didnt do numerous runs and take an average, but its nice to see :(

oh, to answer your question, i would recommend it. Im only running 17psi, and the stock coils would give me a few misses every now and then, but with the new ones i havent seen a miss yet. It did also feel like it ran stronger after i changed the coils. May be Placebo effect tho!

Also if yours is an early series 1 33, the coils will be getting pretty old now.

Yeah, mine missed like crazy once I got past 15 psi, but I found all the coils were cracked.

Splitfires are a good upgrade, and I saw an improvment of around 5 - 8 kws or so, and the power feels a lot more solid (and I can actually floor it now....)

you can get them for ~$700 thru greenline or nengun or the like. Or if you want them ASAP Horsepower in a box should have them on the shelf and get to you in a couple days, but for around $900 maybe a bit more -not sure, check the website. High octane racing in NSW should have them also.

pretty sure price is same for series 1 or 2.

as far as i know, the splitfire series 1 and 2 coils are exactly the same coils, just the plug is slightly different, so its possible you could just use the correct loom/plugs with either coils on s1 or s2. correct me if im wrong.

is it worthwhile to upgrade ignition coils to spitfire when running about 18psi or r33 gtst? any feed back would be appreciated!

My car is fine and im over the 300rwkw for the time being.

I have no issues at all.

MY suggestion, put it all together and then see if you have any problems.

THEN spend the extra $$$ on getting them. That way your not spending money if you dont neccasairly have to

Whether the splitfires are actually better... who knows.

Remember your replacing 10year old packs with brand new ones, so of course they are going to work better

im of the belief that if money can be better spent elsewhere, then it should be... if not save that money incase something else breaks.

I dont mind talking from what ive found out of my own car which ive spent a lot of time/money on... some i wasted. And i'd hate to see others do the same

    • Robertson was a Canadian inventor, and it absolutely reigns supreme here. 95% of our screws are Roberston. It's literally the only option you can buy off store shelves. What would it have lost out too? I believe it's also very popular in the US.  My reference to imperial was pointed to both NPT and BSP. 
    • No. BSP lost to the cultural/technical imperialism of living next to Trumpistan. Face it, Robertson screws were better and still pretty much lost out to the yank stuff. The Europeans hate the Brits and they don't use NPT. NPT is just as "imperial" as BSP is, being based on those useless inch thingos. Just done differently. 
    • I live in Quebec. Our license plate slogan is "Je me souviens" Translated is "We will remember" as a reminder to when England conquered us and that we must never forget what they did. Long story short, BSP is unheard of here due to being an English design. I'm surprised our nazi anti english government office the OQLF hasn't kicked in my door yet just talking about it, yet alone imperial anything.       
    • Thanks for that! I did a quick Google search looked up some of hydaulic stores and didn't see it listed on the website, I'll give them a ring. Also found out later that I can buy 2 oem bleeder bolts for 10 bux and come with the washer which I might do so I don't waste the money it costs in petrol to find 2 washers (already did that lol). The old copper washes look in good nick, I drove it after taking it off and putting it back on and didn't see any  Part number here for reference if anyone needs: 14053-42L0A
