IMO when it comes to mine its been reliable and almost maintenance free when you ask about wear and tear iv spent hardly anything on it and its lasted me for a good 4 years. when i sell mine and able to afford it ill buy another one atm other financial straps are holding me back from keeping it otherwise i would , now when modifying them they arent cheap especially when you go all the way and do things properly but when its all said and done no car is .

my buck 0 five .

Probably the wrong section to post in mate

I'm looking at a similar HP figure to you with my 32 GTR.

People will no doubt give you all sorts of different opinions on costs to achieve this figure, and will depend on what mods the car you buy already has but for me as a guide.

HKS2530's low mount turbos fit to factory manifold $3900

Sard 700cc Injectors fit factory fuel rail $700

Power FC to needed to run injectors $1000

Tune Power FC (Not install) $400

HKS Extension pipes, better flow from turbo than factory $600

With a full 3" system, and a half decent RB26 motor that will get the HP you require (300rwKWs) with good driveability.

Obviously theres more things to add on also like Fuel pump (insurance), Cams ( I Beleive mine has a set already?) and labour to fit if you cannot.

Fuel economy depends largely on right foot, but driven sensibly, with above mods should still see a 400km range, but realistically I would expect 250 - 300 used as a toy ;)

I didnt really use it as a daily driver but i did take it out on drives ect its preety good on petrol as its only a 2.6 litre on boost it tends to use a bit more but with the petrol prices rising i think youll find its preety even when it comes down to it. so far on top of the car iv spent just abit over 2000k on minor mods , not much at all considering the time iv had the car. i use to own a s14 and like s15 it isnt a bad car either but in standard form the gtr and 200 series are chalk and cheese , Its funny you mention the 200 when i bought mine i was fairly happy with it but a mate bought a Ex circuit 33 R and asked me to go with him for a wrap around the block , this thing had the works !!! i admit , but for the first time understood the potential of GTR . To get over the standard form on a GTR you would probably need to add another 2-4k on top. To add things like Intercooler ,ECU , Boost controller ,Afm ,Injectors,High Flow turbos as the ceramics arnt really boostable. My car is running 1 bar comfortably with cooler, boost control , air pods and exhaust if i added the rest of the bits it needed my car should technically get into the 12s maybe even 11s .When you compare prices your paying more for for a smaller motor with less goodies like 4WD. Then again the 200 is a newer car but as time moves on this car dropping in value and before you know it the car will be a glorified slivia then GTR will remain the legend its always been making history as it moves threw the ages. In then end of the day it about personal preference .When i made the move from 200 to GTR i saw bang for the buck.

They are a great daily driver i chose not use mine because the more your on the road the more chances someone will jump out and bump you . As for problems nothing to dramatic , but depends on the car you buy some older year models may need more TLC than others it varies on the buy , mine only needs minor things like left air vent :P but its to be expected . You can spend what you want on mods but i rekon Nissan has a very tight package in standard form and mucking around with it only puts you in hi risk in damaging it and that goes with any car you buy .Manufacturers do things for a reason tamper with it it can go both ways its a gamble .

Have you had a look at the trust t517z's, I read an article in HPI where they installed these turbos on a stcok GT-R with a PFC + exhaust and made 340 rwkw @ 22psi with more power created from 3500 rpm and no more than a 15kw loss anywhere in the curve from standard!! i'm not sure about the cost, but as they aren't ball bearing and are pretty small i would imagine they would come in pretty cheap.

Also the stock injectors are capable of a total of 360 kw but this would be at 100% duty and not worth the risk but for the 250-300 kw you are talking about they should be alright either way 700cc is a bit over the top you could save some money there and put towards some 80 mm AFM's and a better fuel pump. Just my 2 cents :D

Pop the fuse or flick the key to accessories whilst rolling (it will re-engage once you come to a stop again).

I might be getting old, but if I needed a daily driver with Absolute reliability, I'd get the 200. I've had both, (my 32 GTR ran 11 flat quarter) but just wasn't somethin to drive every day. If you had to do something to GTR it takes time and money, and when you have a quick one you simply cannot drive them when "it's not quite right".

An S15 200 will be a little less heartake I suppose, easier to insure etc, but thats all grown up sh*t!

Cheers.

    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
