drift/trackday/skidpan/lvma discussion.

Recommended Posts

In early January I will be finding out what new venues are going to be available to us for off-street events.

the one that is interesting me greatly is a dirt drift track. the guys have been out on it, one in his integra type r which he had fully sideways. its a faster bigger drift track than the skidpan. 50 second lap times. no rocks, you can smoke the tyres up on some sections, its almost like bitumen ted said. as i said cost + availability will be known early January but what i would like is a show of interest and any questions or worries to be raised in this thread. its with the same guys that we do the skidpan days with.

skidpan is going up in price to over $70 each, so if we go back it will be for a full day event on the skidpan and training area, much better value.

I have been dissapointed in the past by having a major struggle filling 12 skidpan places, even with a small crew from rockhampton participating. it seems a lot of people are all talk, afraid of looking unco, or any number of things. please voice anything here with me.

question - do you need a liscence to participate in these of public road events? if not, i cant come till after march...

also dave - if you have your car, why dont you take it, the whole idea i thought was to learn more about YOUR car...

other then liscence problem, slip, im definatly in for a skidpan day.. and im not worryed about making a fool of myself, i mean sau qld needs someone to laugh at...

I am super keen. In fact I'll help others come if they need it. Come to think of it I will personally whip people into coming if we need numbers.

$70 I can live with, but depending on price I'm keen for the dirt action, probably less harsh on the cars apart from mud/dirt stains etc. But I am still keen in the skidpan. Esp for a whole day.

For a beginner like me either is cool, but maybe the more experienced guys want tar to cut sick on? Dunno ideas guys.

Anyway if it is significantly cheaper with no rocks hell I'm up for it. I'm sure I could get about 2-3 guys at least from Sunny Coast to come down. Plus just imagine the rooster shoot we could make with fat arse tyres heheh.

Like people are saying you don't need a skyline to drift - use 4wds / scoobies / go karts whatever. Any practice helps in the end.

[toughtalk - Mr T]Oh and you little ***** bitches that are afraid to come cause you will look like unco's, I will personally bitch slap you in the chops with a plastic broom handle. The whole idea of drifting is unco-ness with style - that's why you need practice days[/toughtalk - Mr T]

Boxhead - If it is off-street then no license should be required - getting a car there could be. Don't know about the skidpan requirements though. Can't imagine you would need you license though.

Keep up the awesome work Slip.

Cheers,

Tim

my friend she may be up for it

hope ya guys dont mind gettin shown up by a holden she may be interested in a drag if they got a quarter mile track but if your car cant do it in 13 secs or better dont bother her holden can do quarter mile in 11 flat

Chaos - we are talking more about a skidpan/drift and track day. As far as I know drags wouldn't be on the cards?

As far as being shown up, great that the car can do 11's flat, but I want to see 3 back to back hairpins at 60km/hr without ever once gaining traction. That's probably the reason most people buy these kind of cars is not for straight line performance, but for handling capabilities.

I think you would be surprised by the level of skill involved in not just hooking out the arse end, but in controlling it through multiple corners.

I'm sure your friend is most welcome though (as long as we have spare places).

On a side note I missed the last skid pan by 1 day. Even though it was on before I got my car, BSM still reckoned Mr E's car was me and that I had invalidated my warranty by taking it on a track haha.

hmm ok just thought may have been lucky for a nice long piece of straight road but yeh im sure she will wanna come shes always lookin for a challenge but if theres anyone on the gold coast lookin for a race or something let me know and hopefully we will see u guys at this event

Also how good is Eddie Murphies impression of Mr T. "I'll clench up my butt cheeks and rip your co(k off!" hahahahaha.

So you coming to this drift day Boxhead?

*cough back to MR T,

hitnrun, have you ever seen where eddie murphy on SNL is that bum, i think its mr robinson or somethin, he has a drum kit, and the land son of rajab knock on teh door, and eddie goes, i got new locks, so MR T just walks through the door picks him up by the neck, and says "kids, today your new word is PAIN!'

its soo funny

*cough back on topic, yes i will more then likely be there, just gotta figure out a way of getting me and my car there, considering i dont think i will be trusting many people to drive my car anymore hahaha if its after march, it will be easier...

like you even had to reply MRE.....

hitnrun - thought you might be up for it. No advanced drifters have attended any skidpan days so far that i know of, so a drift day at willowbank is not a realistic option at this stage. If I can get this dirt track happening it will be the next event on my list. The full skidpan/lvma day rocks. lvma = massive bitumen area with cone track setout and water on it..... :) slalom. timed track, brake tests etc.

Maybe we could make it 2 weekends or a full weekend. One day on the dirt to get some practice etc up, then on to the full skidpan/lvma, the next. Personally I have been hanging out since I got my car for a wet skidpan day. Its at these events when you really learn a lot!

Boxhead - have you though about getting you car trucked/towed there heheh sorry. But if you brought a mate along shotgun style you could practice your quick seat changes (also helps with those intimate moments with the ladies) so when the cops nab you, you can say your mate was/is at the wheel. What about getting those taxi guys who drive your car when you're drunk? Might cost a little though. In the end you will have to trust someone.

To the rest of the QLD crew - come one guys, we only have 3 definites - we might have to get Mr T on to you fools! Let's start getting organised and helping out.

EDIT - Slip if you need help with anything let me know 0409156922 - 24/7 Tim

the problem with gettin a mate to drive me will be they will want a run there.. how far away is this joint? i could get mum to drive there, stash her away somewhere, with her book.. she can read for days on end lol...

maybe since we dont have that many definates , we shoudl postpone till i dunno after march... lol

i prolly wont even have a car till late feb, early march as im importing..

I'm begging you please don't postpone. I'm only on holidays until mid January.

If we go to this dirt track do we need a certain number? I know there is no price yet, but I am sort of thinking that it would be cheaper than a skidpan day anyway.

Boxhead, your mum could always do the photography and filming :)

Anyways - I will spread the word and get guys to confirm.

Cheers,

Tim
