LOL...thats how TIG welding should always be done:( The biggest problems with titanium is the cost of material, the cutting and fitting of the material, and then frequency/amps required to TIG weld it. Basically the little $800 caddy isnt going to do the job:(   Works great for stainless and mild steel but not dont even consider alloys with a cheap TIG,

At least titanium does not require  post weld het treatment like chrome-moly (if its used in critical/pressure applicatio) etc:(

Instead of goign OS im considering buying a TIG, have to think carefully about whether it has the ability to pay itself off though.

I was hoping you would jump in Roy, I thought this might be up your alley.

You have a customer if you want to go ahead. I haven't had much success fnding reasonably priced raw materials, ie; titanium pipe, thin and thick walled. How much are you looking at to buy the appropriate TIG? Not for production runs, but for small volume fabrication, exhausts, inlets that sort of stuff.

I have a previous employer (where i was employed that day at North Ryde) who owes me over $16,000 in Superannuation, and my login and passwords are still active with AE Bakers and BOC:)

Looking around previously the best bet is to get the titanium direct from the states, its much cheaper then buying locally. You have to buy in volumes that make the cost of a sea freight/crates worthwhile which gets pricey:(

The welder would be about 8k setup, that with square wave AC etc so that you can weld just about anything...but then you will need 3phase power in the garage etc

Im not going to bother with that style of welder...far too expensive, will start out with something like a Kempi Master TIG unit which is still pricey:( Ill see what materials i can do with it, ill give anything a go,..but to get the job done right you need the right equipment.

Hey guys...

I would also be very interested in getting Titanium parts made up later on for my car...

If you end up doing it or finding someone who is decent etc... Then let me know as i would be very keen in Some things...

Cheers

Do you have a solicitor chasing the money for you? If not PM me, I know a good one and a great barrister for that sort of stuff.

Wow $8K, is that the cheapest TIG you could use for welding titanium? Or is that the Rolls Royce of welders? Can you use a normnal mandrel tube bender on titanium?

No problems getting titanium from the US, depending on size of course.

I reckon there is a business possibility, if you want to earn some money on the side.
