Ok so i took the car for a run yesterday and thought it was off the show (not able to keep it straight and just lighting up the rears) anyway i dont have my boost gauge yet and wasn't 100% sure what it was running. Figured it to be around 12 -14psi so i borrowed Griffo's boost gauge and "BOY" was i off.

The little old RB20 was boosting at slightly over 1.5 bar.

So we turned the boost back to 1bar and is MUCH better, still very easy to loose the rear end from time to time, just have to moderate it with the right foot.

Im going for 240rwk's once i get the FMIC on an exhaust but i think TimmyB can back me up on this as i think i have one of the toughest sounding cars getting around on Tassie roads

Pics to come guys.

240rwkw from an rb20 with fmic and exhaust??? dont you mean 140....even 140 is a good effort, an rb20 is lucky to reel out over 100rwkw. and if you dont have an exhaust...how does your car sound tough??? does the car have any other mods??

wierd post man, try and clean it up a bit.

cheers

Sorry guys was in a bit of a rush when i posted this yesterday. Realised i had posted it in the wrong section and then reposted it in here. Just realised though that i cut over half the original post off.

Hope this helps to clear it up a little now.

Car mods as follows:

TD-06 turbo with external waste gate (50MM i believe)

bigger injectors (with extra injector for high boost)

GReddy injector equaliser control (is what i've been told it is)

aftermarket ECU

electronic boost controller

upgraded fuel pump and swirl pot

adjustable fuel regulator

Z32 AFM

GReddy BOV (currently venting to atmosphere

GTR intercooler (replacing stock intercooler) want a FMIC

3' dump from the turbo into rear muffler which is standard at the moment, with extractors.

GTR rotors and calipers (is what i've been told)

irridium plugs and upgraded ignition coils

rods and pistons have been done as well as bearings (is what i was told)

set of race springs and HKS front and rear strut brace.

Apexi air intake with modded CAI /Heat shielding (thanks to SAU thread)

button racing clutch and locked diff (want to change diff)

Have not dyno'd the car yet as im still getting it on the road and everything sorted out. When i do i'll let you know how it goes.

Talking to the tuner yesterday and he said if didn't have a couple of hundred kilowats after driving it he said he would eat his hat

Can not wait to get it on the road although i have been re thinking it as a daily driver now!!!

I'm more interested to know why you decided to post this dribble in more than 1 section.

You haven't given any details or asked any questions. Whats the point?

As mentioned above i cut over half the post off after realising it was in the wrong section. Sorry to dribble BHDave, wont let it happen again :cuddle:

My question are:

other people with similar mods just wondering what kinda or power your putting out and how have you got the car tuned?

What is it like on fuel? ( as this is my daily driver)

Any tips on suspension set up and what tyres are people running?

I have other questions but iahve been told that i dribble on so dont want to get anyone's back up at all.

Cheers GMB

You better not :chairshot

Now 1.5 bar without exploding seems plausible.

Im guessing you have one of the original style td06 highmount kits with the extra injector mounts in the cross over pipe. Nice one.

Should easily be capable of 200rwkw plus, closer to 250rwkw actually.

Yeah tell me about it. As i only really just picked the car up (after importing it from Japan) it appeared to be running high boost.

As the boost gauge didn't work (split line from the joiner under the hood) i didn't know what it was running althought figured it around 12-13psi, but after hooking up my tuner's boost gauge it was actually boosting at slightly just over 1.5bar.

Yeah i got one of the original TD-06 high mount set up's with extra injector. (can see in pics)

My tuner recon's 240rwkw's should be pretty easy once we know what the car is doing.

Im still confused, u have all these mods, and dont have a boost guage?  wouldnt u think to put a boost guage on before slapping cash on other mods. ?  It can you know, be sorta handy ...

All the gauges that came with the car dont work. As i have only had the car for a couple of days im slowly working everything out.

As for slapping cash at other mods, the car came like imported from Japan. The only money i have spent is purchasing the car and importing it.

As for smart arsed remarks like that, keep them out of my posts. You got something like that to say, PM me. For any other advice/comments or questions then post away.

a GTR intercooler IS a FMIC...

you've had all this work but it hasn't been on the dyno?

something doesn't sound right...

or did you buy the car already modded?

The GTR cooler is where the original intercooler is normally situated. It has been modified slightly to fit.

I will be buying a new FMIC when i can find either a kit or a good price on the cooler and piping.

So if you have the heads up then let me know.

WazR32GTSt i have bought the car as is from Japan, so all work done was buy the previous owner/s from over there. Im trying to get some info on everything on/in the car so when it comes time to tune and dyno then it will make life a little easier.

well the GTR cooler is normally quite a large unit, not sure how it would fit in the side of the front bar even with extensive modifications. must be a tight fit!

you could pick up a FMIC in the group buy section for like $300 i think. go have a look. or keep your eyes out in the for sale part...

the hardest part is piping. my suggestion would be to get an exhaust shop to custom-make you some pipes. works out the cheapest (if you are on a budget). if you aren't on a budget then check out www.modyourcar.com.au i think they have piping kits there...

oh, now i see

you should have said at the start of the thread that the car just came from japan!

i think we just asumed that you did the modifications yourself

yeah these cars can be a mystery sometimes with what has actually been done to them when they arrive.

it seems a bit of a coencidence that ALL gauges aren't working... including the stock ones?

if just the aftermarket ones maybe they were unplugged? or all linked somehow? i don't know.. maybe someone pulled a fuse? i'm not much of a gauge expert...

i hope you can manage 250rwkw will be nice to see the 'ol rb20 pull some nice figures

:(

yeah i would prefer to buy a kit that included everything, then there is no messing around. Been looking around and i think the cheapest i can find one is a R32 Hybrid copy kit with piping and clamps for $650 plus shipping.

Or i can buy the same core for $299 then piping???

Either way i'll look into it.

The intercooler is an extremly tight fit at the moment and thats why i want to sort that out asap.

Yeah sorry about the mixed post. I left so much out when i realised it was in the wrong area. :chairshot

omg that's a tiny rear muffler... what size is the exhaust??

i would attend to that too if i were you...

:(

BWAHAHAHAA yeah its the stock muffler it appears at the rear.

Exhaust is 3" off the turbo then into the stock system. As previously mentioned it has the extractors set up on it and the external waste gate.

Want to look into an exhaust but very expensive in Tassie.

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
    • @GTSBoy yeah sorry i know thery are known for colors bud those DBA are too in colors 🙂 Green will be good enough for me
