Hi I recently upboosted my skyline to 10 pounds & started to encounter misfiring at about 4 to 5000 rpm. I thought it was problems with the spark plugs so i changed them to stock ones (1.1. gap), however the misfiring still occurs

Can someone pls advise me, my mods are turboback 3" exhaust & air filter...

Thanks!

Hey Zigen. I'm having some problems to. Though now it's happening at stock boost levels sometimes aswell.

Fitted new plugs 0.8mm gap. I think my coil packs are stuffed, they have burn marks on the side where the spark may have been escaping. Uping the boost puts more demand on the coil packs.

There are post here about aralditing up the coil packs. This may not be your problem but it seems a lot of people have had coil pack related problems.

I'll let you know how I go with mine.

Indeed it seems a lot of people are having issues with coil packs. The guy I'm buying my new car from says he just sold another R32 which needed some coil packs replaced and my new car I'm buying he says will need a few replaced which he is taking care of.

Is there some way of preventing this stuff happening cause it seems to happen a lot?

disconneted your battery. turn your ignition on and go mad on anythign that takes power... usually hold the brake on for a while... this will drain the comp of all power and reset it.

had the same problem today actually in a 33... not mine.... and it was fixed and it was running stock gaps and stock boost... reseting the comp seemed to fix it.. give it a go... 5 min fix.... hopefully

Instead of taping my coil packs, I gave the metal bracket a couple of coats of epoxy paint to act as an insulator, so a) it didn't earth very well with the rest of the engine, and B) to stop the spark from jumping to there.

But I dont think any of my coils were leaking in the first place, it was more a precautionary measure since I was changing the plugs anyhow.

Thanks for the advice guys, this sounds like a silly question but how do i gap the spark plugs to 0.8? I know my mechanic has an instrument which does it but how do i do it on my own? Where can i buy such an instrument? Thanks!!

You need a feeler gauge, only costs abuot $10 or so from any auto store.

It's basically a clip with a whole bunch of different thickness pieces of metal, that you can use to check the gap of the plug. To lower the gap, lock the plug in a vice and tap the top very lightly with a hammer.

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
