I'm not sure what it is so im asking for info so I know what it might be. I have a Idea that it might be but not sure. Its a wooping noise comming from the D.S.W. and as far as I can tell you cant hear it from the outside its not always there so I took the wheel off to investergate but as far as I can tell its not rubbing. When I speed up it gets louder and more high pitched when in Nertural still here is when the car crusies to a holt. So if anywbody has any Ideas Do tell

cheers

might pay to jack up the car, and spin each wheel by hand, (as fast as you can while still being able to monitor for sounds) you may find that you'll innitially hear nothing, but compare the sound of each wheel and listen for the 'slightest' differences. Remember that on the road the slightest noises can be 'amplified' tenfold!!

That's a starting point!

I've recently replaced my front wheel bearings, now the rear ones are getting irritating!! They'll be done shortly!! (about $250-$280 both fronts).

Funny sound, like the 'modulation' of a twin engined turboprop aircraft in flight!! Not at all metallic though, more a dull whoop, whoop, whoop sound that is proportional to the speed of the car. Thought it was tyres at first!!

Give it a shot, and respond on what you see (hear!!)

Mark. ;)

When my DS wheel bearing was done up too tight my bearing ground badly but only when turning one way. This might be a tell tale if this is what has happened.

Have you checked to see if it's your rotors? Might be an idea to jack it up, take of the wheel and see if you can spin the hub. I spose if this doesn't do the noise then maybe it's the hub cos the weight of the wheel isn't on it anymore. If it does do it it might be the brakes. Hope you have good hearing :P

Good luck.

I Jacked it up and rotated the Hub couldnt hear anything and yes only one way

when I go reverse nothing happends just when I go fward also it doesnt happen all the time all day its been good and I havent heard anything WIERD!

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
