Hi.

I took the trim off my doors on Sunday to find out why the sound was so poor (and why I was getting the scratches on the outside of the window). The speakers are stuft. All the foam surrounding the cone has gone.

Has anyone done a speaker upgrade on their R32 and have a reasonable set of original front speakers left over?

Thanks,

James,

Belconnen.

I went through this on the 32 GTR. I think you can get replacements from JAYCAR. I upgraded.

I got the idea from the audio thread that there were no direct replacements available.

I'll check Jaycar out today or tomorrow.

I'm still interested in good quality originals too.

Cheers,

James

I made thin wooden pods for my gts and put 6.5" component setup in the front and im just about to do the same for the gtr (tommorrow most prolly) bought some jbl splitts to do it with, if you like, i could knock up two extra pods for you. then you can drop in some nice 6inch (or smaller if you wish) or alternatively you can have what i take out, they sound........ok i guess, i just like noise :)

Sigh..... I dropped by Jaycar at lunchtime. They were really busy and after a long wait I found they no longer sell compatible speakers (or so the sales rep said).

I went to Strathfield, and they managed to sell me a set of JBL gto6426e 4" x 6" oval speakers that screw straight in - no mods. They'll probably just be noise, but I figure I only want to do this once. Apologies for asking, then doing something else.

I can see I'll have to get along to the Jerra pub on Tuesdays. It's about time I made the effort to meet some of you and check out these great cars I keep hearing about.

Regards,

James

I take back what I said about the JBL speakers fitting. The holes line up, but they're a little too deep to be direct replacements.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
